Athens is a great city for sightseeing - use either the happy train or hoho buses to get around. Plenty of cafes and restaurants - find the backstreet mom and pop places for best value. Athens airport transfers - either use the metro for cheap transport - or a taxi is a set 38 euros including tolls, tips etc. Get up to the Parthenon on the acropolis early in the day to miss the hectic crowds.

Athens is actually a little limited for an extended tourist stay.

Things to See

One of the most famous sights in Athens has to be the Acropolis which rises out of the centre of the city. You can easily walk from the Acropolis to many other main attractions and at the same time browse the main shops or enjoy a drink at one of the many cafes along the way. Key sights include the Ancient Agora (marketplace), Kerameikos, the first cemetery and the National Archeological Museum.

Out and About

The best views of Athens can be found from the top of Lykavittos Hill where on a clear day you will see the whole city, the port of Piraeus and the island of Aegina and the Peloponnese. If you want to escape the city head out to the beaches south of Athens which can easily be reached by buses or the metro.
