Bali offers a tropical climate due to it being only eight degrees south of the Equator and it therefore has high temperatures throughout the year. There are two distinctive seasons: the dry season from May to September and wet season from October to April. During the wet season, Bali is very humid and the heat remains at its peak even with the refreshing showers. April and May are a good time to visit the island as it is just prior to the peak season as the weather is more bearable during this time.
Out and About
Bali is small enough to drive around in one day! Travellers have a good choice of attractions and sights to visit from the artistic areas of Ubud, beautiful beach towns of Amed and Lovina and lively tourist spots of Kuta.
Bali offers extremely warm hospitality and is steeped in tradition with a spiritual feel. Visitors are encouraged to relax and enjoy their surroundings and Spa sessions and beach massages can be found in most areas.
Kuta is a lively resort with plentiful nightclubs and all night partying and offers an array of budget accommodation; Sanur is a slightly more upmarket resort to Kuta and there is a popular child friendly beach with calmer waters and is sheltered by a reef; Denpasar is Bali's capital city and there are markets and good choice of shops, museums and art centres.
Out for Lunch!
There is a vast choice of eateries in Bali ranging from the luxury hotels to casual cafes and there is a never ending choice of dishes to suit every taste and budget.
True Balinese dishes consist of rice, vegetables and a small amount of meat. Almost every restaurant offers nasi goreng (Indonesian fried rice with a fried egg on top), satay (spicy marinaded thin slices of meat, threaded onto a skewer, barbecued, and served with a spicy peanut sauce) and mie goreng (fried noodles with egg). These basic dishes are generally popular amongst tourists and travellers. Festivals are the only time that dishes are elaborately presented and hotels and restaurants may offer special Bali nights featuring banquet buffets.
Snacks are found at various outlets (Warungs) throughout the island especially from the mobile food carts which young boys tend to push along the streets. Another good source of meals for the budget conscious are the night markets where dishes are often limited but are fresh and well priced. Markets are always the best place to buy fruit and Bali has a great range of fruits to choose from.
