Kolymbari, Crete, Greece
Kolymbari is a quiet picturesque Cretan village with typical white houses, gorgeous scenery and a peaceful monastery which is well worth a visit. There are a few shops and although there are some bars, tavernas and restaurants it remains quiet at night. A great resort for anyone looking for a peaceful and relaxing holiday.

Uncrowded beaches, unspoilt countryside and a peaceful setting are all the ingredients offered at this resort! Visitors will find relaxed evenings in traditional tavernas and good local cuisine and the lack of clubs give this resort a laid back feel. For those seeking more excitement Chania is only 30 minutes away. The village is popular with hikers who find the surrounding countryside full of well defined trails along the coastline or want to explore the rugged landscape in and around Kolymbari.

Kolymbari is a small fishing village with a collection of small shops. The harbour side has a number of good taverns.

For us it was fine as we planned to use it as a base to do some walks in the north-west coastal area using the local buses. Perfectly adequate INKA supermarket about 5 mins away. The beach is not ideal for children as it is not very sandy - it's better a quarter to half a mile east of the town. The sea bed is mainly large pebbles and a bit steep. Not a lot of other activities available. Quite a few restaurants to choose from, many of them specialising in fish. Not a lot of shops. The location is very attractive, as you have the dramatic Rodopou peninsula on the western side.

Kolymbari has a long section of pebble and sand beach which has been awarded the Blue Flag. The beach never gets too crowded so is perfect for a day of lazing around or paddling in the sea.
The lively resort of Chania, Crete's second largest city, is only a 30 minute drive away and is well worth a visit. The old harbour is full of Venetian architecture and is overlooked by a fortress. The waterfront is packed with busy restaurants, bars and club and is ideal for those seeking to party into the night.
Chania Airport is approximately 50 km away - transfer time about 45 mins-1 hour.
