Afandou is a village which sits 2km inland from the coast and the beach can be easily reached by mini train during the high season. The beach at Afandou is the major draw for visitors as it runs for over 3km. The beach is made up of fine sand and pebbles and several sections of the beach have been awarded the Blue Flag for cleanliness and have sun loungers, watersports and some areas are lined with tavernas. On the left side of the beach is an area with rocks and caves. The beach is 2km from the resort of Afandou and during the high season a miniture train runs between the main square and beach.
Out and About
Afandou offers a good selection of restaurants, traditional tavernas, bars and supermarkets. For those who enjoy playing a round of golf there is a good 18 hole golf course overlooking the sea.
There are many excursions and day trips for those wishing to explore the surrounding areas including the old village of Afandou where there is a 16th century church of Pagagia Katholiki and hilltop church with impressive sea views. For those seeking thrills there is the Faliraki Waterpark (5km south of Afandou) with its maze of waterslides, pools and jacuzzis. There is also a Luna Park Funfair and go-kart track at Faliraki. Further afield is Rhodes Town with medieval fortifications and cobbled Old Town.
Rhodes Airport is approximately 29 km away (transfer time 45 minutes).
