Malta

Malta Hotels

Malta offers the traveller a unique and unforgettable trip. The countryside is covered in the oldest known human structures in the world and has often been described as an open-air museum. As one of the most charming destinations in the Mediterranean, Malta offers fantastic sunny weather, great beaches, intriguing history and a busy nightlife.

How Hot?

Malta has a very comfortable climate and even the winter months can be warm. Between April and September there is virtually non-stop sunshine, March and April can be a little cooler with a touch of rain and December to February can be really wet.

July to September are the hottest months with temperatures reaching, on average 30ºC (86ºF) and August can be even hotter, with temperatures soaring to 40ºC (104ºF). December to February are the coldest months with an average temperature of 15ºC (59ºF) but there is still plenty of sunshine.

Out and About

Although Malta is one of the smallest countries in the world, there is plenty going on, from outdoor activities, historical attractions and good old beach resorts.

The crystal clear waters and the fantastic climate make Malta great for diving, snorkelling, windsurfing and water-skiing. The islands are all separated by boat rides of less than 30 minutes so sailing is also popular and there are many tours and excursions available to visit them all.

The rich heritage of Malta can be seen in it's wealth of archaeological, architectural and artistic treasures which include the Megalithic temples which are over 1000 years older than Stonehenge, Roman Mosaics, Baroque churches and mighty fortifications. Malta's capital, Valletta is like one big museum and is a UNESCO world heritage site.

For those of you who remember Popeye and Olive Oyl, take a trip to Popeye Village which was the setting of the 1980 musical film. The higgledy-piggledy wooden village clings to the coast in Anchor Bay and provides interactive film workshops and a fun park for all to enjoy.

Other attractions include the Splash and Fun Water Park which includes various water slides, wave pool and lazy river and in addition there is an animation programme featuring all sorts of games, dancing and sports. Do come along to Malta's Premier Family water park for a day of fun for the whole family.

Another family day out is the Mediterraneo Marine Park which is home to a variety of marine species such as dolphins and sealions. There are also various other animals such as parrots, cockatoos, snakes, turtles, tortoises, lizards and a collection of insects so for something a little different is is certainly worth a visit.

Out for Lunch!

Maltese cuisine has strong English and Sicilian influences to it as well as a typical Mediterranean feel. The national dish of Malta is Fenkata, stewed rabbit. This is a well known dish eaten by most locals. The food in Malta is rustic and based on the seasonal locally grown fruit and vegetables as well as what is caught from the sea. Pastry is widely used and filled with vegetables, meats, fish or cheese. Stuffed and stewed dishes are very important in Malta, with the likes of stuffed octopus, cuttlefish and squid all served in a spicy tomato sauce. Sweets served include deep fried date filled pastries called Imqaret, treacle rings and almond macaroons are a big hit.

Dining in Malta can vary depending on where you choose to eat. You can explore the small intimate restaurants nestled in the small bays and dine along the waters edge. Take a trip further up in the ancient bastions and dine in restaurants overlooking the harbour. If it's a more local dish you want to try out then search for the weathered courtyards or walls covered in geraniums where you will find small intimate restaurants offering guests a romantic setting for a candlelit dinner. There are family run bars offerin glocal cuisine to guests.
