With two long beaches separated by a rocky promontory with steps to the top, affording great views of the beach fronts, a castle and excellent promenades, restaurants, bars and shops. This is a busy resort, slightly off the beaten track and offers a quieter alternative to Fuengirola.

Plenty of good restaurants, excellent flamenco evening in La Ventura restaurant, interesting "old town" and good walking along the paved promenades.

If you are looking for English or Irish bars forget this place. It's traditionally Spanish and all the better for it! The whole area is clean and well kept with plenty of historical sites to visit. There's a choice of 3 beaches and a good variety of shops in the centre of town. Numerous tapas bars are along the front and up side streets all serving complimentary tapas when you order a drink. The drive down from the motorway from a great height into Almunecar is nothing short of spectacular from a scenic point of view. We're really looking forward to returning next year.

This is a splendid Spanish town with a long and well planned seafront. There are walks along the front either direction from Hotel Helios, with a possibility of having a bus ride back into town. The town is full of history and has an older part which is well worth visiting for lounging at coffee shops, shopping and sitting in the park. Roman remains are in the park. Many weekends there are "festivals" taking place in this park with lots to eat and drink and music to listen to. A castle overlooks the park, worth a visit. Plus there is a memorial to Laurie Lee somewhat hidden on the seafront. He walked through Spain during the 1930s and lived in this town for some while. So you can tell we enjoyed the interest of Almunecar. We also used buses from the bus station to visit La Herrunder, Nerja, Frigliana and Salobrena. We went to Granada on our previous visit. There is a Water Park along the seafront, toward Velilla (bus line 3) which looked fantastic for kiddies and mums and dads.

Not a ton for kids to do, but really, to have an aquarium, aviary, and waterpark within walking distance of our hotel was very fortunate. The beach is rocky, but still beautiful. Walking distance from the pedestrian only mall, great to walk through and see all the little shops built into the historical part of town.

We went in October half term. Weather was fantastic. Lovely beaches. Very quiet and felt very Spanish. Interesting and hilly old town with lots of little shops and plenty of bars and places to eat. Everything incredibly good value.
