This is not a holiday town it is a traditional Spanish area, great for a visit to Gibraltar, local markets and shops. Quiet and peaceful area.

Algeciras is a busy port area with a daily outdoor market and is quite an interesting place if you have the time to explore. The Plaza offers very pleasant seating areas with cafes and surrounding shops. The promenade adjacent to the port is traffic free and a good walk.

There are regular ferries to Tangiers, buses to Gibraltar via La Linea, Tariffa, Marbella and Puerto Banus also a regular train service to Rhonda. The bus and train station provide a cheap, clean, reliable service. Suffice to say this is not your typical sandy beach holiday resort. But we enjoyed the experience and would definitely go again.

The beaches in Algeciras have soft sand which gently slopes into the calm shallow waters making ideal for families. Sun loungers and parasols are available for hire plus numerous water sports are also available. Refreshments can be found in one of the many cafe's or restaurants along the seafront.

Things to do

Scuba diving is a popular pastime due to fascinating ancient wreckages in the area, the local dive school offers lessons and dives suitable for beginners and experienced divers. For a fun filled family day out head to Bahia Aqua park. The park has many exciting water-slides and chutes suitable for kids of all ages.

Out and about

There are many dining options in the resort, along the seafront visitors will find a good selection of restaurants offering traditional Spanish cuisine plus some fine fish and seafood restaurants. There are also some very good Tapas bars and cafes. The Night-life here can be fairly lively, many bars and tavernas offer live music and stay open til late

Nearby attractions

For a great day out the Bay of Gibraltar is just 9 miles away and is great for dolphin spotting. Another great excursion is a boat trip to Morocco where you can take in the sights of Casablanca, Fez and Tangiers.
