It took about 1/2 hour to walk to Maspalomas but not many shops on the way, taxis ok 4.50 euro. We like to walk along the beach to Playa del Ingles but when we did it this time there was a very strong wind and the sand was blowing all over us. But good fun.

Lots of lovely attractions in the area, best place for pubs and restaurants is at Playa del Ingles a 4 euro taxis ride or a 20 minute walk. Maspalomas beach is fantastic, very long with lots of large sand dunes it also has many bars and restaurants and a shopping centre and not to miss The Light Tower. A very flat area and easy for everyone to get around would recommend it highly.

The attraction of the sand dunes is great and the beach very pleasant. However, there seems to be more areas of the beach being taken up by nudists areas so I think that this should be regulated slightly so that this is only allowed between a certain stretch of the beach, as not all people are comfortable about this. In the other direction the shops are great to look around and the seafront is a great place to have a cocktail.

We hope to return again soon.

Maspalomas is beautiful. So much to do within walking distance or a short bus or taxi ride. Friendly locals and tourists. Stunning places to visit nearby, you are spoilt for choice - Puerto Del Mogan, Puerto Rico, Palmitos Park, Aqualand, Playa Del Ingles, Crocodillo Park, Sioux City. I could go on as I love this place.

Maspalomas itself wasn't our sort of place, a lot of expensive designer shops and expensive restaurants along the front but it is nice to just walk along the front. We preferred going to Playa del Ingles beach, there are more of the usual tourist shops down there and a really nice atmosphere. It is also worth a trip into Playa de Mogan, there is a market there on a Friday and the little bay it is set in is beautiful.

Maspalomas looks a bit run down. There is a lot of graffiti around. There was a shopping centre near to our complex called Faro 2. What a great shame that there is only a handful of restaurants and shops left open. It doesn't look very good but don't let that put you off because the remaining restaurants offer great food and great service and the portion sizes are great.

It's quiet. Not as much as it was before. Lots of yelling children and drunken English people, throwing their empty bottles and cigarettes or the like. We're lucky we're staying so long, so we've quiet weeks between.

We had a pretty full week, our time spent on nice long walks, eating great food - tapas Italian and grills. The beaches are truly fantastic, we both have a nice tan! Highlights for us were the outdoor cinema, the nature reserve, a camel ride (take a camera!) Oh and did I mention the great food and wine!

Beaches
The extensive sands at Maspalomas Beach and warm, calm, clear waters are a ideal for sun-bathing, snorkelling and swimming. Plenty of other water-sports are available from diving to fishing, sailing to jet-skiing and there is a marina at Pasito Blanco (4km) for boat trips and ferries to nearby resorts.
Things to Do
Leisure attractions in and around Maspalomas include Holiday World amusement park, the three golf courses, Maspalomas Golf, Meloneras Golf and Salobre Golf; Maspalomas Aqualand waterpark (3.5km), the Aboriginal themed village of Mundo Aborigen (7km), Palmitos Park zoo and gardens (11km) and the Wild West themed park of Sioux City (10km).

Another popular cultural event is the Masdanza, International Festival of Contemporary Dance held in October. In May, the Yumbo Centre is the venue for Gay Pride, comprising a week of partying with shows and parades.
Out and About
The enchanting sand dunes, known as the Maspalomas Dunes, covers an area of 4 square kilometres. This protected nature reserve also features a palm grove and the La Charca lagoon which is home to a number of nesting birds and a stopover for migrating birds.
Close to the lagoon you will see the towering Maspalomas Lighthouse, the top of which affords views over the entire south coast.

Behind the resort the Fataga Ravine provides a rugged and natural landscape dotted with palm groves and archaeological sites. Travelling on the main road through the ravine you can explore the pretty villages of Arteara (14.5km), Fataga (19.5km) San Bartolome (26km).
At Arteara you can also take a Manelos Camel Safari through the valley into San Bartolome. This is the same camel farm which organises the camel walks through the Maspalomas Dunes.
Between Maspalomas and Fataga, you can visit the Mundo Aborigen and learn of the pre-hispanic, Guanche culture at this reconstructed aboriginal village and archaeological museum.
