Vecindario

The main road which runs the length of Vecindario is filled with shops, bars and many restaurants offering local and International menus, as well as a few fast food chains, catering for all tastes and budgets.

In addition to the main road shops there are 3 large shopping centres and, as the town is a short distance from the main tourist resorts, the prices tend to be slightly cheaper here.

Beaches

Vecindario is a residential town and an ideal place to stay if you want to live and shop like a modern local. In addition, the islands best diving and windsurfing beaches are within very easy reach.

Things to Do

Pozo Izquierdo (4km) is one of the best surfing spots on the island and is the venue for the annual PWA Windsurfing Tour and the Wind & Waves Festival. There are several schools and hire centres for surfing, windsurfing and kitesurfing, including the International Windsurfing Centre, Cutre and Kaikane.

The Arinaga Marine Reserve and El Cabron reef is architecturally interesting with swim throughs, caverns and arches as well as having abundant marine life. Scuba diving schools from all around the island will take you to the dive sites in this area.

Out and About

There are 2 shopping centres, the Ciel, on the main shopping street of Avenida de Canarias and the Atlantico centre. Shopping in Vecindario is a modern affair with national and international brands, designer labels and a full complement of restaurants and coffee shops. There are of course everyday shops and supermarkets too and there is a hypermarket at the Atlantico. The general market takes place on Wednesdays and the farmers market is on Mondays.

Inland you can stroll around the narrow streets soaking up the timeless atmosphere in the traditional town of Aguimes (10km). And, at Ingenio (14km), you can stroll through Nestor Park, visit the Clock House and browse the historic quarter surrounding the Plaza de la Candelaria.

Between these two towns, surrounded by the rugged landscapes, hiking trails and caves of the Guayadeque Ravine, you will find the Museum of Guayadeque, an archaeological interpretation centre. A short distance south-west of Aguimes, near the village of Los Corralillos, you can visit the Parque de los Cocodrilo, which is a rescue centre and sanctuary for over 300 crocodiles and an ever growing number of tigers, monkeys and other birds and animals.

Nearby Attractions

For adrenaline fuelled days out, the Gran Karting Club and the SkyDiving centre are located at Bahia Feliz (10km). In the evenings, the dinner and stage show at Garbos (10km) is a popular night out, as is the wild west barbecue at Sioux City (14km). Other nearby attractions include the Maspalomas Dunes and Holiday World amusement park (20km).
