Things to Do

In the historic part of the town you can sit in the town square, see traditional Canarian architecture of the 19th century Church, Our Lady of the Conception and stroll around the Botanical Garden of Flowers.

A number of festivities take place throughout the year in the villages around the Agaete Valley, but the main one is the Festivity of Las Nieves (4th-5th August) and involves thousands of dancers. You can learn the essence and the chapters of the Festivity of Las Nieves and see Papaguevos from previous years at the Museo de la Rama.

It is possible to walk from Agaete to the Tamadaba National Park, where the mountains and ravines, forests and reservoirs are ideal for scenic walks, hiking, climbing and birdwatching. You can also gain easy access to the park from the nearby mountain village of San Pedro. Whether you choose to walk or drive through the pine forests you can enjoy beautiful spots for a picnic and spectacular views over the west coast.

Out and About

Sheltered from the trade winds, Agaete enjoys a warm and dry climate all year round. It is a relaxed and peaceful area, surrounded by the lush greenery and mountains of the Tamadaba National Park and a valley of tropical fruit farms, vineyards and coffee plantations. Needless to say, there are plenty of opportunities for hiking and, indeed, the area specialises in rural tourism.
