There were lots of local bars and restaurants two minutes from the hotel, plenty to see at the fishing port and lovely walks along the sea front. A quick walk to Agaete village saw more bars and restaurants to choose from.

Gardens and guanche site worth a visit. Good fish restaurants in Nieves, but choose carefully some are better than others re quality and price!

About 10 minutes walk from the hotel there is a street full of restaurants. Las Palmas is about 30 min by car, Los Tilos de Moya about the same. Most of the attractions like theme parks and other activities are in the south, but we had a car for the whole duration and we actually though it was better than staying in a place where there are only hotels and it feels like everyone can see you inside.

The little port of Agaete is nice with many water facing little restaurants offering 3 courses menu from 8EUR on and many locals there, a nice atmosphere very difference from the South coast. In my opinion tourists fans of Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas will quickly feel bored here.

There is a small volcanic beach which is suitable for bathing with water sports and dolphin-watching tours available nearby.

Things to Do

In the historic part of the town you can sit in the town square, see traditional Canarian architecture of the 19th century Church, Our Lady of the Conception and stroll around the Botanical Garden of Flowers.

A number of festivities take place throughout the year in the villages around the Agaete Valley, but the main one is the Festivity of Las Nieves (4th-5th August) and involves thousands of dancers. You can learn the essence and the chapters of the Festivity of Las Nieves and see Papaguevos from previous years at the Museo de la Rama.

It is possible to walk from Agaete to the Tamadaba National Park, where the mountains and ravines, forests and reservoirs are ideal for scenic walks, hiking, climbing and birdwatching. You can also gain easy access to the park from the nearby mountain village of San Pedro. Whether you choose to walk or drive through the pine forests you can enjoy beautiful spots for a picnic and spectacular views over the west coast.

Out and About

Sheltered from the trade winds, Agaete enjoys a warm and dry climate all year round. It is a relaxed and peaceful area, surrounded by the lush greenery and mountains of the Tamadaba National Park and a valley of tropical fruit farms, vineyards and coffee plantations. Needless to say, there are plenty of opportunities for hiking and, indeed, the area specialises in rural tourism.

Nearby Attractions

In the neighbouring fishing village of Puerto de la Nieves (2km) there is a harbour with a fast ferry to Tenerife, the palm fronted 16th century Chapel, Ermita de las Nieves, a small beach with calm waters and a good choice of traditional fresh fish restaurants. The capital of Las Palmas is approx 30km.
