The Riviera Maya is home to some of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico and with 116km of powdery white sand and turquoise waters, there are plenty to choose from.
The calm waters make for perfect conditions for snorkeling and with the amazing coral reef and fantastic marine life it is a great way to spend a few hours.
Things to Do
There are many All Inclusive hotels here, each with their own facilities and entertainment programmes but there is also lots to do outside the complexes. The Riviera Maya is the ideal place for participating in various water sports and with Riviera Maya being home to the second largest barrier reef in the world, it is the ideal place for snorkeling and diving. It is also possible to go cave diving in the many underground sink holes that are unique to this area.
Have a day out at Dolpinaris Park where you can be a trainer for the day or even swim with dolphins, it's a great day out for all the family and something a little different.
It's not all about watersports here, there are ample opportunities to play tennis, enjoy a round of golf or even go horseriding so there is plenty to keep you active. Visit the Mayan ruins at Tulum, the archeological site was built over a cliff and is well worth a visit should you want to escape the beach for the day. You can also visit Coba, which is home to the highest pyramid in Mexico's Mayan world.
Out and About
There are plenty of restaurants on offer, many of which offer many Mexican dishes such as Mole which is made with either chicken or turkey and the popular enchiladas. Being on the coast, you will also find seafood such as tuna and red snapper are also popular. There is plenty of nightlife to be found in Riviera Maya, especially in Playa del Carmen where you can find many venues to enjoy a drink after a busy day on the beach.
Riviera Maya offers a good selection of shops, from souvenir shops to exclusive boutiques so whether it's a little something to take home or a treat for yourself, you will be certain to find it here.
Take a trip to one of the world's most unique parks, Xcaret where you will be able to swim in an underground river, see various different species in the aviary and aquarium and even enjoy a Mexican show amongst other things.
At Xel-Ha ecological park, you will get a chance to meet some local wildlife, go on a jungle trek, rope swinging and a spot of cliff jumping so there is something for everyone and it is a really good day out.
Due to the location, there are many boat trips on offer, many of which include different experiences such as swimming with whale sharks and other sea creatures or you can simply relax and enjoy doing nothing.
There is so much to do in this area and the great weather makes all the outdoor activities even better.
