Not as well known as other resorts on Cyprus, Protaras is slowly coming into its own. The resort has something to offer everyone with cosmopolitan cuisine, lively entertainment and breathtaking beaches. The beaches tend to be quieter than those of the busier resorts. A great place for families and couples looking for a quiet holiday.

There are several beaches lining the coast of Protaras with the most popular being Fig Tree Bay, here visitors will find ample sunbeds and umbrellas for hire, soft sand and calm water ideal for swimming and for kids paddling plus an array of water-sports such as jet skis. Just behind the beach there are a good selection of bars and restaurants. For those who wish to escape the crowds head to Kapparis Beach which is tucked away and unspoilt, perfect for those who wish to relax in a more tranquil setting.
Things to Do
For a great day out try the Traditional Schooner Cruise, which is a 6 hour cruise on a traditional sailing boat which takes passengers to one of the most beautiful beaches in the area for a little bit of swimming and snorkelling. Scuba diving is also perfect here with Protaras offering the most dive sites in the whole of Cyprus.
For those who prefer to stay on dry land there are many attractions including water parks, zoos and fantastic aquarium which has over a thousand different species and is a family favourite. Another of the top attractions in Protaras is the small church of Ayios Ilas which sits on top of a small hill and boasts superb views over the town and surrounding area.
Out and About
An array of restaurants catering for all tastes and budgets can be found in the resort as well as many shops. The bars along the main strip come to life in the evenings, many offering live music and karaoke, although fairly lively those wanting to party all night should head across to the party capital of Ayia Napa which is approx a 20 minute drive away.
The water festival held over 3 days at the beginning of June is not to be missed. The events are in honour of floods from biblical times. Events include traditional music, live concerts and fireworks displays plus lots of fun and competitions with a great party atmosphere.
