Exactly what you expect from a 3 star hotel, clean comfortable with a nice private pool area. Wouldn't return due to no air conditioning and was virtually the only British people staying there.

The apartments have been renovated but there is no mirror in the bedroom; no dressing table to lay hairdryer or straighteners on and no drawer to store makeup etc in. The telephone takes up most of the room on the tiny bedside table. The bath has no anti-slip mat and no handle to hold onto to get in and out of bath. The sitting area in lounge is inadequate with only one sofa. In the kitchen there was no chopping board for cutting vegetables etc and we had to request one which was provided eventually (this also happened in the previous apartment we stayed in). The fridge-freezer is a huge bonus.
Staff are amazing and our cleaner, Angela, did everything she could to help us.

We have never been impressed with the pool bar and restaurant. Not at all welcoming. Rarely see guests having snacks or just enjoying a drink - the view is fantastic. We speak to many guests and have made many friends there - one couple from Norway said it was now advertised as 4 star accommodation and priced accordingly - it was telling the many people thought that a pretty poor joke.

We have stayed many times at the Canaima - pre-renovations and post - I did bring the lack of a mirror in the bedroom to the attention of the management last October and was assured they were just awaiting a delivery! But - taking everything into consideration we still like the Canaima and I'm sure we will return.

The apartments are extremely well equipped for a 2 star residence, they contain a full sized fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster and filter coffee maker. I've stayed in higher star rated accommodation where the only way to boil water was with a pan on a cooker ring. The shower was surprisingly powerful for an over the bath attachment, and there was never any shortage of hot water. The bath itself was nice and deep too. Towels were changed every other day. The pool area is near the top of the complex and is nice and private. Very clean, though quite cold, but great for a dip to cool down in when the glorious sunshine gets the better of you. The whole complex is very clean, and the staff are all very friendly and cheerful. The only reason I haven't given this a 5 star rating is that the food was always tepid. There wasn't a lot of choice, but I didn't expect there to be given the star rating, but it would benefit from a hot plate which actually kept the food warm. Wi Fi and safety deposit boxes were free and there was some English channels on the in-room tv. If the kids are happy playing in the pools all day they'll love it here, if they need more to occupy them, then this is probably not the place as there is no entertainment. We travelled without children and found it suitable for our requirements.
There are lot of steps within the complex so may be unsuitable for those who find walking difficult.
To sum it up, I enjoyed my week at the Canaima and would return without any hesitation.

Great apartment for price, basic, clean and spacious. Cleaner came in every day. Pool was quiet due to time of the year, only complaint would be that the sun loungers were not great. If they were not broken then then were almost there. Apartment about a 10 minute walk via stairs to town centre, approx 250 steps which we climbed approx 4 times a day, great exercise. Taxi was only 4 euro if need be. Going back to Puerto Rico this coming Saturday, booked a late deal but Canaima was sadly fully booked or I would be staying there.

Very basic accomodation, my wife and I were surprised at the antiquated beds which were 2 single with mattresses which were very uncomfortable.
The TV is coin operated and the apartments are best described as a cattery. The cats are everywhere and are encouraged to stay by the owners.
