As we faced the hotel from the main town square I was already impressed with it's architecture. Once I had entered I was even more impressed. The building dates back to the 16th century. I felt very privileged to be staying in such a beautifully restored building. The courtyard has lush palm trees and poinsettia plants set in the middle and very comfortable sun beds arranged at one end. We found that the sun in January peeped into this section of the courtyard from 10am until around 12.30. However in the summer months I can imagine that there is plenty of greenery around to escape the sun and to lie in the cool shade. Around the courtyard, up above, is a balcony with some of the bedrooms leading off it. This landing along the balcony also had comfortable loungers to rest and reflect from.
Our bedroom, a superior twin room, housed two wide twins pushed together, a couple of chests at the bottom of the bed to house suitcases, a desk and chair and 2 comfortable rattan armchairs. The bathroom is largish, however, the shower could have been better, but no big deal. We had AC plus heating. There is a balcony off the side of the room behind 2 very large carved wooden doors. There is also another window behind carved wooden shutters which faces the very attractive main square. The square is enchanting with a convent facing and a church either side. All painted in pastel colours. It was a pleasure to sit on the small window seats which are carved into the wood adjoining the large shutters.
Breakfast is very good lots of goodies on offer. Bread, rolls, croissant, Spanish meats and cheese. Boiled eggs, many jams and fresh fruit, cereals and yoghurt and the delicious fresh orange juice too. Of course there is coffee and tea available and a selection of home made cakes.
Everywhere is very quiet and tranquil. However, the church does chime every hour on the hour. But not between 11pm and 7am. I am an insomniac but have to say the sound didn't bother me at all. One just gets so used to the dongs, after a while one doesn't even notice it. If I have one negative point to make about the hotel, it is to say that better lighting would have been appreciated in the bedrooms.
The hotel is perfectly situated for parking the car and for accessing the town of Garachico. I highly recommend this hotel. The staff are friendly, approachable and helpful. We stayed in the hotel for 9 nights. My husband is already talking about when we can visit again!
