Playa de Palma beach is a long 4.6 km stretch of wide sandy beach, with a gentle slope and clear water making it ideal for families with young children. The beach is well facilitated with sun-loungers and parasols readily available for hire, all manner of bars and restaurants along its promenade and good variety of watersports including paragliding and jet-skis. This whole stretch of beach has 15 Balnearios, which are small beach huts featuring a kiosk, toilets and showers.
Things to do
The Palma Aquarium, found between Ca'n Pastilla and Playa de Palma, combines education and fun suitable for all ages and is a great place to learn all about marine life and more. There are 25 aquariums home to a wide variety of Mediterranean species, a further 24 with tropical fish, and the deepest shark tank in Europe. Outside there's a play-area for children, Mediterranean and jungle gardens.
The city of Palma is a must-see with winding streets, historical sites, museums, pavement cafes and chic boutique shops Palma has plenty of places to explore and relax. Some of its major attractions include the gothic La Seu Cathedral, the Palace de L'Almudaina and the Castell de Bellver.
Out and about
Playa de Palma offers a number of bars, cafes and restaurants with something to suit all tastes and budgets. There's also a variety of shops, with the usual tourist fare on offer such as beach accessories, leather goods and souvenirs. The resort has a lively nightlife with a number of music bars and discos.
A regular bus service provides links to the neighbouring resorts of Ca'n Pastilla and El Arenal, which are joined by a long promenade, a pleasant walk with palm trees providing a much needed respite from the sun; alternatively there is a mini-train which runs between the three resorts during the summer months.
Nearby attractions
Aqualand water park situated on the outskirts of El Arenal offers a variety of water attractions with adrenaline chutes, children's play-areas and a relaxing lazy river, ensuring a fun-day out for all ages.
The Marineland which is located in the resort of Portal Nous around 15 km away is a popular attraction for families with young children, the park features an aquarium with rays and sharks, and the shows includes performing sea lions, parrots and dolphins.
For an enjoyable day out take the train from Palma to picturesque Soller and enjoy the scenic journey while seated in vintage carriages, a pleasurable and popular tourist attraction. Once in Soller you can extend your trip onto Port de Soller, where a vintage tram connects with the arrival of the train.
