Gundogan

Gundogan, Bodrum Region, Turkey

Gundogan is a quiet and peaceful place which is relatively unspoilt despite the developments on the surrounding hills.

Gundogan

Gundogan is an unspoiled, laid back resort which sits in a curved bay, surrounded by fruit and olive groves with a backdrop of pine clad hills. Whilst the beach and restaurants can be busy, the resort retains a fishing harbour charm and traditional daily local life has not been edged out of the village.

Beaches

A long sandy beach lines the back of the bay, divided by a sheltered harbour filled with fishing boats and wooden gulets. There is a cooling breeze in the bay making windsurfing and sailing possible and there are plenty more water based activities available such as paddle boarding, paragliding, jet skiing, fishing and snorkelling.

Things to Do

Go hiking in pine forests or take a guided trek across the hills above the bay, passing ancient ruins, Lelegian tombs and caverns, such as Peynir Cicegi cave.

Take one of the boat trips from the harbour, many of which include a stop off at Apostle Island to explore its ruined Monastery and Byzantine churches.

Out and About

Nightlife is low key and mainly centres around the waterfront bars and restaurants. At the end of the day, the sunloungers on the jetties are replaced with dining tables offering the perfect spot for a sundowner or a candle-lit evening meal.

There are supermarkets, banking facilities and beach shops in the resort but for modern retail therapy you might want to head into Bodrum. Gundogan holds a traditional Turkish street market on Wednesday and has stalls selling food and local produce, clothing and giftware.

Nearby Attractions

Located in the neighbouring large bay of Golturkbuku, is the chic resort of Turkbuku and it's more laidback neighbour of Gulkoy. Join the moneyed in-crowd at the beach clubs of Turkbuku, take a jet ski around the bay or enjoy an evening meal on one of Gulkoy's beach pontoons overlooking the water.

Bodrum is approx 25km away and easily accessible via the local dolmus with a journey time of around half an hour. In the summer season the service runs day and night so you can take advantage of all the Bodrum attractions; browse the shops and castle by day or party until dawn.

There is also a bus service into the nearby resort of Gumusluk where you can enjoy a fresh fish meal by the harbour or snorkelling in the bay over the ruins of the ancient city of Myndos.
