Situated just west of Fethiye's town centre, you will find the 2km long pebble beach which has plenty of sun loungers and umbrellas available for hire. Although there are many pebbles, it is safe for swimming and there are plenty of opportunities for windsurfing and kitesurfing. Many of the town's hotels are located down at the beach and marina, as well as many cafes, bars and restaurants which are situated along the paved boardwalk.
The secluded Calis Koca can be found 20 minutes walk away and offers 5km of sand. The beach here is very pretty and was even used as a location in the Bond movie, Skyfall.
Things to Do
One of the best ways to explore the area is perhaps by water taxi, the taxis leave from the canal, just behind the seafront and run regularly. The water taxis proves to be a very laid back and enjoyable way to travel. There are also plenty of mini buses should you prefer to travel on dry land.
If you fancy spending a little more time on a boat, why not take one of the many boat tours available. One of the more popular ones is the 12 island boat trip which tours the islands with some swimming and snorkelling stops built in. These trips can be booked at any of the tour shops in Calis or where the water taxi docks in Fethiye.
Take a trip to the Sultans Aqua City, the water park in Calis Beach. It is small but there are plenty of slides and attractions for everyone to enjoy and really is a great day out.
For nature lovers, there is a small natural park called Bird Heaven which is full of many different kinds of bird and certainly worth a visit. Something else which is worth seeing is the Carretta Carretta turtles that come to nest on Calis beach every year. Depending on what time of year you visit, you may be lucky enough to see them lay their eggs or even the baby turtles.
Calis Beach is well known for windsurfing and there is a windsurfing and kiting school here should you wish to try your hand at either or both of them.
Although there is plenty to do here, many people enjoy just relaxing at one of the seafront venues and watch the fantastic sunsets or look over the bay for a chance to see dolphins swimming or even catch a glimpse of the evening lights of Rhodes on the horizon.
Out and About
Calis Beach has a decent selection of restaurants to offer and caters for most tastes, from traditional Turkish, British favourites, Chinese, Indian and Mexican. Nightlife is generally low key but there are plenty of laid back bars and some more lively music bars to choose from. The many seafront venues are just perfect for watching the sunset whilst enjoying a drink or a meal.
There is a market in Calis Beach every Sunday which has a variety of goods on sale.
The centre of Fethiye is only 10 minutes away so if you are looking for something a little livelier, you will be sure to find it here.
A wander round the narrow lanes of the "old town" (the Paspatur) of Fethiye will reveal the many souvenir shops and gold shops so whether it be a small reminder of a great holiday or a special gift for someone, there is plenty of choice here.
Forty minutes from Calis, you will find Saklikent Gorge. Caused by seismic activity, the gorge was only discovered in recent times and is a great experience to walk along. Another great thing to see is the carved rock tombs at Fethiye.
If you fancy a day out sightseeing or even some more shopping then catch the hydrofoil over to Rhodes Island. You can visit the famous Old Town or wander round the harbour area, there really is so much to see, well worth a visit for an enjoyable day out.
