Denia, Costa Blanca, Spain

Denia tends to rely on tourism to make it's living and has an important harbour area with ferries sailing to places such as Ibiza and Mallorca.

Denia

Denia has an interesting history and though much of the town is filled with holiday apartments some of its old charm still remains with its picturesque fisherman quarter (Baix La Mar) and castle.

Denia's main street (Calle Campos), is lined with shops, cafes and restaurants, closed to traffic on weekends it's a great place to stroll and dine al fresco.

With 20km of coastline Denia is ideal for those who enjoy spending time on the beach, ranging from long stretches of sandy beach and rocky coves to the north and south of the town, many of which are consistently awarded the prestigious Blue Flag for cleanliness and facilities.

The longest beach is Les Deveses, over 3km long and around 40 metres wide; it's a gorgeous sandy beach and is particularly suitable for windsurfing and sailing during the summer months. Les Rotes is a stretch of coastline to the south of Denia, consisting of small rocky coves and beaches, a great spot for snorkelling and there's also a naturist beach here.

Accommodation:Port Denia Hotel
Room:Double Or Twin
Board:All Inclusive

I don't know how this is called a tourist area as it does not seem to have anything much for tourists and to catch a bus anywhere we had to walk for half an hour to the bus station. It is very residential as you drive into Denia and not very pretty. The beach near the hotel was covered in seaweed for a few days until they cleared it. But not a pretty beach anyway.

Plenty to do around the town, busy in the evenings when out for dinner and trying to park a car but very pleasant.

Things to do

For fun days out, Benidorm is the place to head, home to the Terra Mitica theme park and neighbouring TerraNatura zoo and aquapark, the Mundomar Sea Life and Animal Park and next to this is Aqualandia Benidorm aquapark.

The Terra Mitica theme park has adrenaline rides and kids rides, set amid ancient Mediterranean themes, with daily shows, ranging from Roman circus acts to Egyptian and Greek dancers, there's also plenty of cafes and fast food outlets to keep you going for the whole day.

The TerraNatura Aquapark features a wave pool, hydrotherapy pool, kids pool, chutes for all ages, grassed picnic areas and a sun deck with jacuzzis. TerraNatura Zoo boasts over 1500 animals living in beautifully landscaped natural habitats including many endangered species.

The Mundomar Sea Life and Animal Park is a landscaped tropical delight with plenty of animals and colourful birds. Spend the whole day here and you can watch a host of entertaining shows with dolphins and sea lions, parrots and exotic birds. Families can take a break at the children's play area and when you're hungry, there is an a'la carte restaurant as well as a cafe, snack bar and a number of kiosks to choose from.

Aqualandia Benidorm aquapark has plenty of eateries and everything you need for a fun filled day from kamikaze chutes and exhilarating rapids to the relaxing jacuzzi pool and kid's adventureland.
