Paleokastritsa

This beautiful and lively village is surrounded by pine trees and set in a clover shaped bay. A 12th Century monastery looks down on the village from the steep hillside and the half a dozen little beaches dotted around the bay. The monastery is definitely worth a visit for the views alone. Visitors can enjoy the many tavernas, shops and small bars which are spread around the village and there is a little port just a five minute walk away.

The resort is hilly and due to the terrain may not be ideal for anyone with walking difficulties.

The numerous beaches are rather small and pebbly, and I would consider the resort to be a place to visit for a day, whilst staying elsewhere. Very picturesque though and the local restaurants are rather good, especially Nereids. We were extremely glad to not be staying further from the sea, as the locality is very mountainous, with many hotels etc. in tremendously elevated positions. I'm sure the views from up there are spectacular, but you really need a car if you're staying there.

Very beautiful place to stay with various beaches. Restaurants and bars are plentiful and mostly Greek, no English themed bars so, if you like traditional Greek hospitality this is the place for you. Not much to do if you are into a lively resort and noisy nightclubs but still plenty of good entertainment.

Beautiful and very picturesque. You need to visit to believe it. We went in 2005 and have been back every year since. We have not stayed in Hotel before as there are lots of other options and places to stay. Lots of lovely restaurants all within easy reach.

A long walk in Paleo which was very busy. Some lovely places if you find them and would definitely recommend hiring a car or scooter to see the rest of the island. The eastern side of the island is clean and beautiful.

Paleokastritsa is so beautiful with lots of little beaches hidden away that are only accessible by boat. The monastery at the top of a hill is well worth a visit and has fantastic views over the small resort. We found all of the locals to be extremely friendly in all the bars and restaurants. We especially got on well with Angelos in Spiros Taverna, nothing was too much trouble for him. We went on the yellow submarine - a glass bottomed boat so that you can see the fish underwater, but found the Nautilus trip much more enjoyable. This is a very modern boat with a circular viewing ring to see the fish. We were lucky and had the boat to ourselves as we went on it late in the afternoon - brilliant.

Paleokastritsa is a beautiful resort. It has many beaches/coves and numerous restaurants. The main beach, opposite Apollon is the best, but is packed with day trippers on coaches, but they tend not to arrive till about 10:30 so you can get the sun loungers first. The resort is quite spread out and quite a few steps to many beaches, but if you are fit and able, no problem. Best pool bar is The Belevedere (great staff and steps down to beach too - also really good restaurant for dinner with best views and lovely food) and best restaurant is The Dolphin, again fab sea front position, excellent food, great value and lovely understated service. 105 ski club on Agios Pedros beach best value for all water rides etc. Great value self drive speed boat hire on Ambelaki beach. Aqualand is quite expensive, but was a good day out and sun loungers are free and food and drink pretty reasonable. Apollon hotel is in the best location for what Paleo has to offer and would recommend anyone to stay there. Walk up to Monastery is nice too and Apollon Hotel also have another couple of longer walks too which are great to do first thing.

Stunning surroundings. It was a pleasure to walk around the resort. No sign of a karaoke bar or MacDonald's - paradise! Resort is very busy in the day with day trippers but comes into its own in the evening. Enjoy the sunset with a cocktail followed by a fantastic meal in one of the many tavernas.

Paleokastritsa is our most favourite place for holidays, especially since we got married there in 2012. The resort is beautiful but very steep and with steps in places, so not for the faint hearted or lazy. The locals are lovely people, very kind and friendly. There are several beaches and pool bars to choose from, so you can go somewhere different every day. Nightlife is low key, but there a couple of bars that will stay open as long as you want them to. Highly recommended by us.

The beaches were amazing especially the one in front of the Apollon Hotel and the resort was as picturesque as I expected. I can't suggest individual restaurants as all the ones I ate in were good and best of all there were no British pubs.

The monastery is just a 10 minute walk up the hill from the Apollon and well worth the walk, it has a small gift shop and you are able to buy wine and olive oil made by the monks themselves. Paleokastritsa is very spread out and probably around 3 miles end to end so be prepared to walk.

Truly excellent location and ideal for those wanting relative peace and tranquility and excellent food and hospitality. Only complaint was that, since our last visit, at least one music bar had started up playing music at a level that disturbed sleep until the early hours. Many fellow holidaymakers also felt that this was affecting the quality of their holiday. This type of venue I think is more suited to some of the livelier southern resorts and could put us off returning. Apart from this truly lovely.

We loved the area. Something for everyone. Most of all it was the wonderful scenery, a different view around every corner. Local tavernas were all good and offered great value for money especially on Greek Nights. Local people very friendly and helpful. Only 30 minutes from Corfu town if you felt the need to shop. It was our first visit to anywhere in Greece and if this is typical of the sort of treatment you get then we will definitely be back for more.

Picturesque village, lovely tavernas, very peaceful place and felt very traditional; lovely people. Definitely worth hiring a bike to go up the mountain roads - not a car! The views from the top are amazing. All the tavernas in the village we went into were lovely, no complaints about the place, will go back one day, been along time since I have been to a Greek Island and this one is just how I remember Greeks and Greece was unspoilt with lovely people.

We went for a chill out holiday and that is what we had. We did hire Quad bikes and went up the mountain which was fantastic, views to die for! There are plenty of boat trips etc. if that's what you want but we didn't. Some very nice tavernas and good food to be had.

It is located in a very beautiful part of the island with a stunning coastline and beautiful sandy beaches. It is touristy but not a particularly lively resort which appealed to us too. It is best suited to families or couples. We also liked the fact that there were a mix of nationalities present in the resort. I would recommend renting a car - if you do this before hand online there are some very good deals to be obtained - as it is a mountainous part of the island and it allows for great sightsighting.

The resort is stunning. Very picturesque and scenic. Fantastic place to relax and people watch. One small downfall, every island tour brings coachload after coachload of visitors all day long but when the tours depart, the resort returns to a quiet romantic haven.

It was quiet, peaceful and felt like we were part of the family. Instantly we were made to feel like family and by the end of the trip we'd made so many friends. We are going back next year for sure! The beach was kept clean too which was great and if ever we needed information, help or advice everyone helped. It's a real gem - just 10 mins by bike and you can reach a slightly busier resort and by boat the choices are endless. There are monasteries, walking routes, castles, beaches, tavernas, even cash points within easy reach. One word of advice, a set of wheels is essential if you want to explore. The prices were reasonable and in fact cheap in some places, a little will go a long way but again if you want to splash out there are places to go. Advice: Rent a bike from Nadia's Bikes (see Mike, awesome guy) and go exploring. Don't worry about wasps (unless very allergic) they didn't bother us, they buzzed around which was irritating but we never got stung. If going in late September, pack a fleece and long trousers, the evenings can be cold but clear and wear sunscreen, during the day it was roasting!

It's probably not to everyone's taste but that was good for us as it is still relatively undeveloped compared to other places on the island of Kos. We'd go back as it suited our expectations although the beach isn't fantastic - but it is okay. Good place for a more Greek, laid back holiday in a still quite spot.
