Kos

Kos Hotels

Kos is rich in history, stemming back thousands of years, there is lots to learn. With lots more to offer than just sun and beaches, Kos has plenty for sports enthusiasts. The different resorts offer different types of holidays, from the busy nightlife of Kardamena to the quieter resort of Psaladi which just has a little beach and a few shops and tavernas to offer.

How Hot?

Kos is situated just 4km off the coast of Turkey in the north-eastern Aegean Sea, enjoying long Mediterranean summers which begin warming up in May and peaking in July/August with average daily temperatures of 86ºF (30ºC).

Out and About

Kos is considered to be one of the hottest party islands but there is so much more on offer such as beautiful beaches, lovely villages, some great sights and fantastic nightlife.

For history lovers, there is a lot to see in Kos such as the interesting archaeological museum and an archaeological excavation area where ruins from the ancient agora have been found. A statue of Hippocrates as well as houses, temples, baths and mosaics from different eras can be found here. It is also possible to visit a Roman house.

Asclepion, where the great temple of the god of medicine lies, dating back to the 4th century BC is also worth a visit.

There are many beautiful beaches in Kos, the most popular of which is Paradise beach which offers sun beds and watersports and is great for families and children. If it's a quiet beach you are looking for then it's best to go round the west side.

Kos is a shoppers paradise with a great variety of shops to be found such as jewellery, clothes, sandals, leather belts, textiles, embroideries, ceramics, paintings, local wine and much much more so whatever you are looking for you are bound to find it here. Many of these items will be found in the public market which is just before the entrance to the archaeological site.

As there is so much to see in Kos it is a good idea to hire a car or bicycle or even hop on board the small train that goes round the town of Kos.

Out for Lunch!

The island of Kos follows the traditional Greek Mediterranean cuisine of lots of fresh vegetables, fruit, meat, fish and olive oil. The restaurants on the island offer a wide choice of dishes including meat, fish including lobster and prawns as well as cheeses. Some great dishes to try are Xinomyzithra, a local sour cheese, Sarsoymades with honey and Loukoumades, a sweet fried snack.

Stay in a luxury 5 star All Inclusive hotel offering the best in food available, dine in a beachside taverna or travel further inland into the mountains to discover real traditional cuisine. Snack bars and fast food joints are scattered all over the resort centre where there are bars as well as restaurants to enjoy.
