The sea front promenade, runs the entire length of Costa Teguise, passing each of the five beaches. Choose from the small bay at Playa del Ancla, the calmer waters at Playa Bastian, the main beach of Playa de las Cucheras and the white sand bays of Playa de los Charcos and Playa del Jabillo.
There are several windsurfing schools in Costa Teguise and a diving centre near Playa del Jabillo. Indeed, Playa de las Cucheras is one of the venues for the PWA Windsurfing World Championship qualifiers.
Things to Do
There is a concentration of bars and restaurants at the Pueblo Marinero, which has been designed in the style of a traditional Canarian village and is the venue for the Friday evening market. A couple of minutes walk back from the Pueblo Marinero is the El Trebol centre where you will find the mini golf and the fascinating Lanzarote Aquarium which has many colourful aquariums and a shark tunnel.
On the edge of the resort, heading inland towards Tahiche, you will come to the Costa Teguise Golf Resort. Costa Teguise Golf is an 18 hole par 72 course with a driving range, putting green, a golf shop and hire desk, paddle tennis courts, an academy and a clubhouse overlooking the countryside.
On the outskirts of Tahiche (6.5km) you can visit the lovely Cesar Manrique Foundation and stroll around the fascinating former home of Lanzarote's famous architect; admire the gardens and browse the art gallery.
Out and About
A little further inland you can visit the charming and timeless town of Teguise (13km). This historic town which dates back to the early 15th century was once the island's capital. In the centre of the town you can sit in the gardens or the town square in front of the Nuestro Senor de Guadelupe church, visit the house museum at the Palacio Spinola and take lunch at the Palacio de Marques, which is the island's oldest building. On Sunday mornings the town comes alive as locals and tourists flock to the large street market.
Next to the town of Teguise, you can't fail to notice the extinct Mount Guanapay, seated on the top of which is the 16th century Castillo de Santa Barbara, now housing an interesting museum.
Annual events held at Costa Teguise include the carnival which takes place around the beginning of March, the Brazillian Music Festival (June) and the Costa Music Festival (September).
