Car Hire

Handy Tips

Remember to plan in advance a route from the airport to your accommodation. The car hire companies can provide you with local maps, but getting a good idea in your head before you arrive will help lots. Read up on the highway code for your destination, for example in certain parts of America, it is normal for drivers to turn right on red if there is no traffic coming and is it's safe to do so. Find out whether you will meet any tolls en-route to your accommodation, if so it's handy to have some loose change. This can be obtained at the airport prior to you leaving. Many UK sat navs will work abroad. Check your sat nav and see if it has support for your destination country, perhaps even borrow a friends. Most car hire companies also supply sat navs for a small fee paid locally. Often one additional driver is free, take advantage of this and share driving abroad.

How do I book optional extras like baby seats or additional drivers?

After you have selected a car to hire and proceeded through to the first booking page, all optional extras will be presented here. There are 2 tables, the table on the left contains extras that are bookable in advance, the table on the right shows extras that you can request, but are payable locally. If you select an additional driver, you will be required to specify their full name and date of birth at the time of booking. This can be done in the passengers section. If you request a baby seat, please email us to confirm the exact age of the child travelling so we can request the correct size of car seat for your child. Please note, help will be available from the car company but you may be required to fit the child seat yourself.

Ok, I'm ready to book, where do I start?

Using the search menu on the left, specify the time you wish to collect the car, and the time you want to return it. This will be pick up and drop off times, rather than your flight times. Select your arrival airport hit check availability. Results will be returned on the next page, remember to click 'More Info' in the search results for more details.

Upselling On Arrival

The local agent may try to offer you a better vehicle on arrival. Please note the majority of the staff at these companies are on commission and will try their best to get you to take a better car. Please remember, you are at no obligation to take any upgrade, unless of course they offer it to you for free.

What are the requirements to drive abroad?

The minimum age is generally 21, this can vary per destination and can be checked using the More Info link in the search results. To drive abroad you must have an active drivers license and held it for at least one year. You will need to take your drivers license with you, and any paper counterpart you may have. A passport may also be required for additional verification.

What do I do on departure?

Full instructions will be provided by the car rental agent on arrival, but generally you just make your way to the airport with plenty of time before your flight, 2 to 3 hours minimum. On arrival at the airport follow signs for car rental returns. Depending on the size of the airport, there may be signs for each car hire company, if so follow the one you are booked with. A representative will meet with you, check over the car, and help you on your way.

What to do on arrival?

When you arrive at your destination airport, you need to make your way to the car rental desk. Details will be attached to your voucher about the local agent and their opening hours. When you arrive at the desk you will need your license along with a credit card in the driver's name which will be used as a deposit should you incur any additional expenses whilst using the car.

What's included in the price

All prices quoted on the site include the rental of the car, drivable by one named user, any airport fees, unlimited mileage (unless otherwise stated), collision damage waiver, theft waiver, third party liability insurance and standard damage excess waiver (SDEW). The SDEW is optional and can be removed in the booking process should you wish, but we do recommend it.
