Things to See

Santo Domingo is steeped in history and there are many historical sights to see.

The Plaza de la Cultura offers dozens of museums with a large park where guests can stroll between the two. In the Naco part of town is the Museo Bellapart which offers the best collections of Dominican contemporary art.

Not to be missed is the Columbus Lighthouse which is in the shape of a cross and was constructed to mark the 500th anniversary of Christopher Columbus' arrival. Close by is the Los Tres Ojos and National Aquarium. Los Tres Ojos is a 50 foot cave with three lagoons .

Sports enthusiasts may wish to visit the Juan Pablo Duarte Olympic Centre and the Mirador del Este Sports Park where International competitions are held throughout the year. Basketball, horse riding, golf and go-karting can also be enjoyed.

Festivals

There are two main festivals throughout the year; the annual Merengue Festival in the summer (end of July) and the carnival which takes place during the whole of February.
