Situated to the south of Orlando, Kissimmee is a popular choice for families looking to visit the main attractions the area has to offer. The Disney parks are around 25 mins drive away.
Orlando Sanford International Airport is less than 1 hours drive away, and Orlando International airport is just 30mins.
Beaches
There is no beach in Kissimmee but if you are prepared to travel, you will come across some fantastic beaches. Cocoa Beach is over an hours drive away but it is beautiful and certainly worth the trip.
Things to Do
A must do while staying in Kissimmee is a trip through the Everglades on an airboat to get a taste of the real Florida. There are various tours available and you can look forward to seeing a whole host of beautiful birds, wild creatures, snakes and of course, alligators. Zipping through the swamp is an unforgettable experience for all the family.
If you would rather see alligators in a more controlled environment then take a trip to Gatorland. Not only will you see alligators but you will also see crocodiles, snakes and various different birds. You can view the animals from a 2000 foot boardwalk, visit the alligator nurseries and rearing ponds and enjoy the view from the 3 storey observation tower. There are also various shows, alligator wrestling, a petting zoo, gator gully splash park where you will get wet and Screamin Gator zipline, so for all this and more it has to be a trip to Gatorland.
The Old Town is a hive of activity with bars, restaurants, shops and various attractions for all the family. There are several thrill rides here too and weekly car shows so there is never a dull moment.
Fun Spot America is another family entertainment area with roller coasters, thrill rides, go karts and gentler versions for little ones. There is also an indoor arcade and snack bar for those in need of re energising.
There are many golf courses in the area and of course, crazy golf too which is always a family favourite. There are also helicopter rides and segway tours but if you prefer to chill you can visit one of the many park and lake areas.
Out and About
With so much going on in Kissimmee, it is a good idea to combine a trip to the theatre with dinner. There are several dinner shows available, such as Medieval Times where you will get to see some jousting while eating a meal which is fit for king. There is also Capones and Pirate's Dinner Adventure too which are both great fun for all and something a little different.
There are lots and lots of restaurants dotted around Kissimmee, many of which offer American cuisine but you will find a variety of other foods such as Chinese, Indian, Italian and Mexican, definitely something to suit every taste and pocket. There are plenty of bars and clubs around so if you have the energy after a day seeing the sights, you will find somewhere to relax and unwind.
There is a whole range of different shops available in Kissimmee, from souvenir shops to sports shops and flea markets, whatever you are looking for, I'm sure you will find it here. There are also over 40 high street shops in The Loop entertainment area along with a cinema and several restaurants.
Nearby Attractions
The Universal Theme Parks which are approx 18km from Kissimmee provide plenty of thrills and excitement for all the family. Islands of Adventure offers thrill rides, shows and rides for younger members of the family too. Universal Studios is movie based with lots of rides, 3D shows and plenty of other entertainment. Universal also has it's own entertainment area called Citywalk which is full of restaurants, clubs and entertainment venues.
Seaworld is also close by and as well as the many animal exhibits, there are many rides for all the family and plenty of shows and other attractions.
Approx 19km away, you will find Disney World and with 4 theme parks, 2 waterparks, dining, shopping and entertainment areas, you will have no problem finding something to do. There is so much going on in Disney that it is worth setting aside some time to explore it.
Florida's Legoland is the largest Legoland park in the world and is approx 55km away. There are restaurants, shops and over 50 rides, shows and attractions. There is also a botanical gardens and a waterpark too.
NASA's launch headquarters, Kennedy Space Centre is just over an hour away and gives you the opportunity to tour launch areas, see giant rockets, train in spaceflight simulators, meet a veteran astronaut and if you are lucky enough, view a launch.
