The beaches and pools are great, Club Amigo is the only hotel I have stayed at and I discovered so much this second visit, there are very special walks along the playa path and amazing artistic works I never seen before. I think Guardalavaca is a fantastic resort.

Beach nice, apart from locals leaving behind waste from picnics (including glass bottles). Local market good with stall vendors changing daily. Not a lot else in vicinity but close to marina for boats and for the Dolphin swim. Avoid local restaurant on the point as food is not good.

Guardalavaca is a picturesque beach resort on the southern end of the east coast, comprising a few all inclusive hotels and a gorgeous white sugar sand beach.

The beach is fronted by clear, calm turquoise waters, protected by the coral reefs and is backed by lush greenery.

Things to Do

The main activities here revolve around the Esmeralda Beach and the Guardalavaca Beach. You can take coastal cruises, go horse riding and sky diving or simply bob about in a pedalo.

There is a diving centre and a number of dive sites to appeal to scuba divers.

Out and About

On the outskirts of the resort, the nature park at Naranjo Bay offers a good day out where you can swim with the dolphins and watch the daily shows with the sea lions and dolphins.

Nearby you can explore the nature trails, stroll around the cactus garden, visit the mini zoo and the aboriginal burial grounds at the Conuco de Monga Vina.

Nearby Attractions

The city of Holguin ( 58km) has many parks and squares surrounded by historic buildings. See the San Isidoro Cathedral, visit La Periquera museum and admire views over the city and the surrounding countryside from the Mayabe Lookout.

Further around the coast at the Bay of Gibara (50km), you can explore the colonial style fishing town, visit the Museum of Colonial Art and see the ruins of Fort Beria de Fernando VII which held great importance during the slave trade era.
