Good position for local attractions (e.g. Slide & Splash, Zoomarine) and excellent beaches. The resort itself is quite "tower blocky" and lacks Portugese character.

The beaches, bars and the people brilliant and to slow things down pop to Portimao, short walk or bus trip away. Quieter, more laid back, my favourite and a must if you like sea food. Dona Baca traditional cooking, beautiful, head for the bridge on the harbour it's under the arches.

We went to the beach most days which was only a 5 minute walk but there were 80 steps down from the street to the board walk. The beach was huge and sandy and sloped gently to the sea. We also went to look round Portimao, on a river trip from Portimao to Silves and on a water taxi from the Marina to Ferragudo. Most of the shops and restaurants are on the road along the top of the cliffs and there are entry points along the way to steps / slopes down to the beach. Most of the shops were typical tourist shops with beach goods and souvenirs. There were about 65 restaurants and most were very reasonable. At the western end several were offering a 3 course meal for €8.90. The marina at the eastern end of the boardwalk also had a selection of shops and restaurants. There are also many restaurants and bars along the boardwalk at the back of the beach but some are only open during the day. In the evening market stalls appeared at the western end, mostly selling jewellery or fake designer handbags. There were several small mini marts but you would need transport to get to the large supermarkets.

Absolutely beautiful resort, went for a relaxing week and it did not disappoint. Lots of bars and restaurants offering excellent value for money. We found an excellent grill called Taffy's with good home cooked food at very good prices, also a great chilled out bar called Moonlight overlooking the beach and you can't go far wrong with a pint and glass of wine for 3 euro.

A beautiful area and lovely beaches and Main Street and harbour. Not child friendly due to massive numbers of steps, could do with more ramps or something. However, long stretches of boardwalk on the beach made up for that once down there. Would definitely recommend.

The resort is small and quiet, especially this time of year. The beach is lovely. There are also some great restaurants on the beach- my personal favourite is 'Casalinhos', in my opinion it does the best steak ever. If you have a rainy day while you're there on your holiday you can get a taxi to a shopping centre called Aqua.

We have been there before, staying at the opposite end and found it to be very good both times. The only thing I would add to it is a couple of Cliff Lifts as the steps up to the town seemed to get higher.

The beach is long and wide with white sands. From the hotel oriental, it is a long way down to beach via about 60 steps and a long way back! The town is very much geared to the younger generation with plenty of loud music coming from numerous bars. It is possible to avoid this by going to the castle and marina end, where there are excellent restaurants and bars at reasonable prices.

Amenities are all near, beach was walking distance and very clean, they also have life guards around the each section of the beach resort. All you need in a supermarket was there, fresh bakery, espresso is divine!

The Restaurants we went and definitely go to go to Claire's and Carlos the owner was great! Casa de Rocha view by the sea is few mins away watch the sunset go down again food was amazing, definitely try their own Portuguese wines.

There's plenty of beach bars and cafes which again food and wine, beers super bocks! Cocktails very cheap. Try Caprihinas - it's divine, had to bring back few bottles to try at home.

We tried few other restaurants which was terrible, looks can be deceiving and this why we end up in the same restaurants at the end the one we recommended. Safari, Claire's and Casa de Rocha.

Another one is Safari Portuguese restaurant, food amazing, view by the sea and check out the Bella Vista 5 star hotel & spa. Which is the other end of the beach, we went there for pre drinks on our last night.

Favourite cocktails was Caphrianas must try! Food and drinks are cheap to eat out every day and night.

This our first time in Portugal and highly recommend a place to visit.

Definitely buy your alcohols in Portugal resort as in the duty free in airport are more expensive. Cigarettes are the same price in resort and duty free.

There's always a excursions to go to if you fancy a day out somewhere for adults and children which can be sorted by your apartments hotels.

Overall we rate this 5 stars apartment and resort.

Beach is lovely here, only downside is there are lots of stairs to get there, not always great if you have little ones or a pram. The bars and restaurants are great, plenty of choice and were always very accommodating for our young children. Lovely atmosphere along the strip of a night, plenty of little attractions for little ones.

The resort has plenty of bars and restaurants, but is less busy than other resorts within the Algarve. The beach is immaculate, a long stretch of white sand, and clear blue sea. There is a picturesque marine area at the end of the beach, with lots of restaurants to visit. You can arrange a boat trip from the marina, at a reasonable cost.

Beaches

This 2km stretch of golden sand is one of the most famous beaches in the Algarve. The beach is backed by cliffs and is easily the resorts most popular attraction. There is a wooden walkway that runs the whole length of the beach with a variety of restaurants and beach cafes. The walkway provides easy access for pushchairs and wheelchairs. There are lifeguards on in summer and there are sunshades and awnings available to rent. For those who enjoy watersports, there is a good variety such as windsurfing, jet skiing, paragliding and pedalos.

There is a wide paved walkway that runs along the top of the cliffs which is perfect for walking or cycling and the views of the beach from here are really good.

Things to Do

Sport is a big thing here, whether it is horse riding, watersports, golf or even a spot of deep sea fishing, there is so much on offer.

The casino in Praia da Rocha is very popular and not only can you try your hand at the tables or slot machines, you can also have dinner and even see a show. It's a great night out and a little different than the usual nightly entertainment.

St Caterina Fort was built in 1621 to protect the City of Seville and Vila Nova de Portimao from Spanish pirates and moors and offers a fantastic view over the surrounding area. There is a cafe/bar here so you can enjoy a drink whilst taking in the lovely views

Out and About

There are plenty of shops in the resort and you should be able to find the perfect souvenir in one of the many stalls and boutiques that can be found along the promenade. If you don't find what you are looking for in Praia da Rocha, head to the nearby Portimao, where you will find a great shopping centre with everything from designer clothes to local hand crafted goods.

There are plenty of restaurants here which cater for different tastes. There are lots of traditional restaurants which serves lots of local dishes which include fresh cheese, smoked ham and smoked salmon or if you prefer, you could try one of the seafood restaurants. Whatever your taste, I'm sure you will find something.

As well as the many bars here, you will also find many discos, so if you fancy staying out until the early hours then you can and there are plenty of options too.

Nearby Attractions

With so much going on in the area, there will not be time to get bored.

Lagos Zoo is not huge but concentrates more on smaller animals and birds. The monkey island is great fun and there is a pets corner too. There is also a children's playground, picnic area, snack bar and restaurant here which makes it the ideal place for a family day out.

Lagos itself is worth a visit, it is one of the most attractive towns in the Algarve with its main avenue running the length of the town. The marina and beach is on one side and the cobbled streets of the town centre are on the other side. There are some great restaurants to sample and plenty of shopping if you fancy.

Zoo Marine in Guia is a very popular choice for families with children and is the highlight of many a holiday. Visitors will be able to see dolphins, sea lions, seals, tropical birds and various birds of prey. There is also an aquarium with exotic fish and sharks and there is a 4D cinema too so there is plenty to keep everyone occupied.

Why not check out Portugal's largest water park, Slide and Splash which is situated between Lagos and Albufeira. There are loads of rides for all the family and a separate children's area for little ones so everyone is happy. There is a grassy area if you fancy a spot of sunbathing and there is a couple of restaurants and kiosk serving food and drink. Slide and Splash is a great day out for all the family and a great way to cool down.

If you haven't had enough of shopping, you could visit the Algarve Shopping Mall in Guia which is huge and offers a great selection of shops.
