Beaches

Las Playitas is a purpose built holiday resort which lies above a black sand bay and focuses almost entirely on sport and fitness. The superior facilities appeal to athletes as well as fitness-minded holiday-makers and there is a non-stop programme of classes, events and courses of instruction for all abilities. This self-contained resort also has restaurants, bars, a supermarket and a medical centre.

Things to Do

Sports facilities at Las Playitas include swimming pools (one being olympic size), indoor and outdoor fitness gyms, a Spa, tennis courts, running and cycling routes, watersports and ball games. Golf Playitas is an 18 hole, par 67, golf course complete with driving range and hire shop.

Just outside of the resort, the traditional working town of Grand Tarajal (5km), will provide you with an authentic insight of daily life on Fuerteventura. You can have a game of football or relax on the dark sands of the beach; watch the local fishermen at the harbour, stroll along the promenade, take advantage of the non-tourist supermarkets and relax in the town square, surrounded by palm trees and next to the 19th century church and water fountain.

Nearby you can visit the cliff top La Entallada Lighthouse, an attractive and modern building constructed of red brick and local stonework in the 1950's. You can't enter the building but the pathway and viewing platform affords impressive views along the coast.

Out and About

Cultural places of interest include Los Molinos Interpretation Centre at Tiscaminita (19km) and, further along the same road, the Molino de Antigua Centre in Antigua (28km), where you can learn of the historic importance of the Fuerteventura windmills and local handicrafts.

The archaeological site and information centre at Poblada de la Atalayita (24km) features lava stone dwellings and a history dating back to aboriginal settlements. Its a little hard to find but if you turn off the main FV2 and follow the road to Pozo Negro, after about 2.9km, you will see the museum sign to take the right hand fork.

Nearby attractions include the Oasis Park (25km), a well maintained and landscaped animal park and botanic garden; Sotavento Beach (36km), famous for wind-surfing and kite-surfing and the two 18-hole golf courses at Caleta de Fuste (36km).
