How Hot?

Montenegro can be enjoyed anytime of year, depending on what you want to do when you get there.

If enjoying the sun and sea along the coast resorts is the top of your list the best time to visit is between June and September, with July and August being particularly busy with tourists.

Hiking, climbing and rafting can be enjoyed from April through to September, while skiing is possible from late November to early April.

Out and About

Montenegro remains one of Europe's best kept secrets, totally unspoilt with natural beauty that rivals any where in the world but is fast becoming a popular choice for a family holiday.

The small country of Montenegro is home to no less than 4 stunning national parks. The mountainous Lovcen National Park is a symbol of national identity and is home to the mausoleum of Peter II Petrovic Njegos, poet, philosopher, statesman and many traditional villages. Sadkar is one of Europe's largest lakes and most important bird reserves, where some very rare species of bird can be found. Durmitor is a UNESCO World Heritage Site with breathtaking lakes, canyons and cakes and is a true paradise for nature lovers.

Last but not least, there is Biogradska Gora which is just one of only three surviving virgin forests in Europe and home to five glacial lakes, over 2000 plant species and numerous birds and other wildlife.

Kayaking and white-water rafting are popular sports here and for thrill seekers, a trip down Tara canyon, the second deepest in the world is a great experience.

Out for Lunch!

The traditional dishes of Montenegro have a distinct Italian flavour to them. This is shown by the way the bread is made, cheese making and the way the meat is dried and cured. The second largest influence is from Turkey, where kebabs, pita and baklava are very popular. Croatian cuisine is also very popular mainly in the desserts area with crepes biscuits and doughnuts.

Dine in the relaxing restaurants where you can try some of the local delicacies as well as seafood which is widely chosen. A typical traditional meal can be taken in a more local restaurant rather than one in a touristy area where food will be more expensive. Bread is served with every meal to snack on. Due to its use of Olive Oil the diet in Montenegro is very healthy.
