Icmeler holidays

Holidays in Icmeler are headlined by its beautiful Blue Flag beach. This gorgeous crescent is fringed with greenery and features a colourful promenade with plenty of places to eat, drink and shop. Icmeler is nestled along the Turkish Riviera and is much-loved by UK holidaymakers for its laid-back, welcoming feel. Not far down the coast, you’ll find the bigger resort of Marmaris, although there are more than enough fun things to do in Icmeler itself. Whether you fancy visiting Turkey on a family holiday, a couples escape or an adventure with your mates, there’s something for everyone in Icmeler.

Why holiday in Icmeler?

Icmeler offers the best of both worlds when it comes to beach holidays in Turkey: it’s relaxing enough for a peaceful break and exciting enough for a packed itinerary. Prefer a bit of both? No problem! Whether you like to stay put in your dreamy hotel or explore the local area, this piece of Turkish paradise has it all – including hot weather almost all year round.

As well as laying on a sun lounger, sipping cocktails or splashing in the Mediterranean Sea, visitors to Icmeler can also enjoy a wide variety of watersports – including waterskiing, banana boats, pedalo rental and more - at the beach or hiking in the lush green hills nearby. Prefer a gentler way to get outside? The coastal promenade is a great place to discover new bars, restaurants and shops – you can even follow it right round to the neighbouring resort of Marmaris.

Beach holidays in Icmeler

Did we mention that the beach here has Blue Flag status? This is a world-renowned reward given to beaches with a high standard of cleanliness and fantastic facilities. The fine shingle beach has just about everything you could need to make your days by the sea complete. There are plenty of sunbeds available for affordable prices; lovely, leafy eucalyptus and palm trees provide a shady place to cool off; and the waters tend to be clear and warm – perfect for scuba diving or snorkelling. You might even spot some cheeky dolphins if you’re lucky. For kids, there are a handful of play parks in reach of the beach, and many of the sea view restaurants are family-friendly venues with children’s menus and high chairs available on request.

What to eat and drink in Icmeler

This resort offers as many Turkish delights as you could imagine, including Mediterranean favourites and some local specialties. Be sure to keep an eye out for seafood restaurants serving the catch of the day – these will adapt their menu to whatever fish was freshly caught that afternoon. Grilled kebabs are a mainstay of Icmeler menus too, but they’re nothing like the greasy post-night out grub we have back in Blighty (although there’s a time and a place for them). True Turkish kebabs are made from melt-in-your-mouth meat, best served after a hard day chilling out on the beach. For plant-based diets, there are plenty of dishes to discover, such as courgette fritters or veggie mezze platters.

Got a sweet tooth? You’ve got to try gözleme. These are the Turkish take on pancakes, and you’ll find them served in cafes and restaurants all along the promenade. Baklava is another delicious dessert, made from flaky pastry, pistachios and honey – delicious! To raise a toast to your holiday in Icmeler, it can only be with a glass of raki. This sweet, star anise-flavoured liqueur is best served with seafood and is widely agreed to be Turkey’s favourite tipple. You’ll also find home-from-home beers, wines and soft drinks served in most hotels, bars and restaurants here – just in case you fancy something more familiar.

Visiting Icmeler

When visiting Icmeler there are a few things to do that you shouldn’t miss. One of those is making a splash at the Atlantis Waterpark. Just a short hop in a car or taxi from the resort centre, you’ll discover a place where kids’ dreams come true (and adults who refuse to grow up, too). From thriller slides to the wave pool, this waterpark is great for the whole family. Got tiny tots in tow? They will love the shallow splash pools and water fountains. Spend the day here and you can also enjoy mini-golf, bars, restaurants and an exclusive stretch of beach.

Souvenir shopping is a must, obviously, and there’s no better place to browse for bargains than Icmeler’s market. Held every Wednesday, the stalls here offer locally-made food and drink, as well as gifts and trinkets to help you keep the holiday memories alive when you get back home.

Important information for visiting Icmeler

Most holidays to Icmeler fly into Dalaman Airport. It’s a good idea to book your transfer in advance, as the time from the airport to the resort is about an hour and a half by coach or taxi – do keep in mind that this can vary. The transfer time is more than worth it though; you’ll be greeted with a stunning bay and a great atmosphere, wherever you choose to stay in this resort. Plenty of UK airports – large and local – fly to Dalaman Airport, and the flight time takes about four hours if you fly direct from London.

The official language spoken in Turkey is – you guessed it – Turkish, although many hotels employ staff who speak English. Your holiday spends will need to be converted to Turkish lira. When you arrive in Icmeler you’ll be three hours ahead of the UK, so be sure to set your watch.
