Most Britons on Holiday Abroad on August 23rd 2012

Posted by Sue Anderson, 28th Aug 2012

Here at sunshine.co.uk, we recently got to thinking; what date this year will the highest number of Britons be out of the country and enjoying a holiday abroad? When we get thinking about something, we like to get to the bottom of it, so that's exactly what we did.

We trawled back through heaps of booking data and statistics from our website to see which date this year would see the most people out of the country and found that to be last week on August 23rd.

Britons Favouring Mid to Late August Breaks

It was clear from booking patterns on sunshine.co.uk that mid to late August was the favourite time for Britons to go on holiday and we don't doubt that this is to do with the fine weather at that time of year and the convenience of the school holidays.

Spain and Turkey Busiest Destinations

We also thought it would be interesting to see which destinations abroad would seemingly be the busiest on the most popular day for holidays, August 23rd. We found Spanish and Turkish resorts to be favoured by Britons; with Marmaris, Benidorm and Icmeler the most popular places.

January 5th 2012 Quietest Day for Holidays

Once we knew when the most popular day for holidays was, we thought it would be fun to see when the quietest and least popular day was too, which turned out to be January 5th 2012, according to our statistics. No surprise there when you think how much of an impact Christmas has on people's bank balances!

So, if you were lucky enough to be on holiday last week on the 23rd August, it turns out you were in good company. Was the resort you were at very busy? We think it certainly would have been if our statistics were anything to go by. If you want to beat the crowds, perhaps look to book a winter escape in January. You never know, you might even have the beach to yourself!
