Fore! Lookout for Turkey

As many of the European resorts get ready to close down for the winter months, there are some destinations around the Mediterranean which remain busy thanks to their popularity with golfers.

Without the intense sun and soaring temperatures, many golfers find this time of the year the ideal time to escape to the lush fairways of Portugal's Algarve and the testing greens of Spain's Costa del Sol.

There is now a new player to challenge the traditional golfing destinations, the recently established Turkish resort of Belek. This week has seen Turkey attract the very best that world golf can offer with a field of eight players including the world number one Rory McIlroy and fourteen time major championship winner Tiger Woods, doing battle in a three day event worth $5.3 million.

By no means a one off event, Turkey is looking to host further events including its own open championship and also hopes to land the 2020 Olympic Games by which time golf will have returned to the games.

A purpose-built resort founded in the 1980's, Belek is only 25mins from the city of Antalya and its airport, offering excellent beaches, numerous top class hotels and outstanding golf resorts.
