Britons Miss Their Pets More Than Their Family When On Holiday

You know what it's like when you're on holiday... you can't help but wonder what's going on at home that you're missing on out, wondering how the pets are, if your work is being carried out efficiently and so on. But would you admit to missing your pets and your colleagues more than you miss your family?

Some Britons don't miss anything whilst on their holiday

We carried out a survey of 2,599 Britons who have been on holiday at least once in the past 12 months and discovered that 89% of respondents admit to missing something or someone whilst on their holiday. We gave them a long list of people and things and asked them to select the top three they missed the most. The top 10 results were as follows;

1. Pet(s) - 67%

2. Work colleagues - 55%

3. Bed - 51%

4. TV programmes - 43%

5. Close family - 22%

6. Laundry facilities - 19%

7. A decent cuppa - 12%

8. Driving - 10%

9. Local pub - 7%

10. Own house - 5%

We're not surprised that pets top the list, but are a bit shocked that work colleagues, our own beds and even favourite TV programmes are missed more than our own family members!

We all get the holiday blues

Similarly, we wanted to find out what Britons miss the most about their holiday when they return home, back to the normal day-to-day life. Again, we asked them to state just the three main things they missed the most when returning home, with the top 5 results being as follows;

1. Good weather - 91%

2. Drinking alcohol daily - 74%

3. Time off work - 62%

4. Food - 55%

5. Relaxation - 53%

'Fear of missing out' is a real thing

Whilst family may have come fifth in the top 10 things Britons miss most when on holiday, it turns out the average Brit will phone home roughly 6 times whilst away, with the majority of people, 41% in total, admitting to calling their family. So it's no wonder we don't miss them so much when we're away... it's because we still call them and talk to them - letting them know how our holiday is going and getting the inside scoop on what's happening back at home.

Apparently those who don't call their family are likely to call either their friends (36%) or their partner (17%). And why? The survey showed that two thirds of Britons, 66%, experience FOMO (fear of missing out). One way or another we just have to stay up-to-date with what's happening even though we're off on our holiday, getting away from real life and trying to take some time to relax and enjoy a well-deserved break.
