A Tenth of 18-25 Year Olds Lost Their Virginity on Holiday

Our latest poll has revealed that one in ten 18-25 year olds lost their virginity whilst on holiday abroad. Furthermore, the majority of these admitted that they never saw that person again after the holiday was over.

It would appear that some holiday romances really are just that, as our latest poll has revealed that despite the fact that one in ten 18-25 year olds lose their virginity whilst on holiday, 98% of these never see the person they slept with again after the holiday ends.

We carried out the poll as part of our ongoing research into the holiday experiences of UK adults. 1,741 18-25 year olds from around the country took part in the study, each of whom had been on holiday abroad since turning 18.

9% of respondents admitted that they lost their virginity on holiday

Initially, the respondents were asked 'Did you lose your virginity on holiday?' to which one in ten, 9% said 'yes'. In contrast, a fifth, 19%, of those polled claimed to still be a virgin. The respondents who had lost their virginity on holiday were asked if they had seen the person they had slept with again, after the holiday was finished, to which 98% said 'no'.

Just under half have had a 'holiday romance'

All respondents were asked if they had had what they would class as a 'holiday romance' in the past, to which almost half, 49%, said 'yes'. Those that said 'yes' were asked if they had continued the holiday romance after their holiday had ended, to which 12% said 'yes'. In contrast, the vast majority, 72%, said 'no' and 16% said 'briefly'.

Two thirds of those polled said that they regretted losing their virginity on holiday

Those who had lost their virginity on holiday were asked if they regretted doing so, to which almost two thirds, 61% said 'yes'. They were also asked what type of trip it was that they were on when they lost their virginity on holiday, to which the answers were as follows:

18-30s style holiday - 47%

Quiet holiday with friends - 29%

Family holiday - 16%

Other - 8%

We've looked into several aspects of holiday romance before, but this is the first time we've polled people about losing their virginity on holiday. We were quite surprised to find out that one in ten people have done.

It's important to be safe when on holiday, especially when it comes to meeting new people. Make sure you keep your wits about you and don't let your friends go off with a stranger! Just remember to use your common sense!
