Tuscany

Tuscany Hotels

Tuscany lies in central Italy and is best known for it's stunning landscapes, picturesque medieval towns dotting the hillsides, endless vineyards and rolling green hills edged with characteristic cypress trees. The region is rich in art and culture and still retains an air of romanticism and charm.

How Hot?

Tuscany offers a mild climate with the summer being hotter on the coast and in the valleys than it is in the hills or mountains. April to May and October to November are sunny with higher chances or rain but are good times to visit Tuscany. Winter may be mild and sunny but it can become very cold at night.

July and August are the hottest months, however, June and September can be very warm without being too hot. Temperatures from June to September can range from 27ºC to 30ºC (80ºF to 86ºF).

December, January and February tend to be the coldest months with an average temperature of 12°C (54°F).

Out and About

There are so many famous attractions in Tuscany such as the leaning tower of Pisa, the Piazza del Campo in Siena and the Michelangelo, the Duomo and the Ponte Vechio in Florence. Although Florence has it's fair share of art treasures, there are hundreds of galleries and museums all over Tuscany so no matter where you are, you will be able to get a piece of history.

Tuscany is well known for it's wine so why not visit the beautiful and scenic vineyards and also sample some of the fine wine. Tuscany is not only famous for it's wine but it is also very well known for it's opera and hosts many jazz festivals and regular concerts in Lucca and Viareggio.

Given it's beauty and spectacular countryside, it is no wonder the region is so popular for walking and cycling. Regions such as Chianti, Arezzo and Maremma are particularly good for for cycling, horse riding and hot-air ballooning.

Out for Lunch!

Tuscany cuisine is very simple. Its food is rich in fish, herbs, fruit and vegetables and is prepared using the fresh locally produced ingredients. The difference between the cuisine in Tuscany and that of others is that the simple dishes are made by using only natural ingredients. A famous dish to try out in Tuscany is Bruschetta. This consists of slices of bread spread with tomato sauce. Ribollita is a famous Tuscan soup loved by most residents.

Restaurants are dotted all around the area ranging from small intimate cafes to luxury restaurants. There are snack bars serving local treats and delicacies or if you are looking for something more upmarket try one of the excellent restaurants. Most serve locally produced cuisine as well as International menus.
