How Hot?
Slovenia has four distinct seasons, as well as three climatic influences; a harsh Alpine climate in the mountains, a sub-Mediterranean climate on the coast and a continental climate in the northeast lowlands.
If you're heading to one of the ski-resorts in Slovenia, the best time to visit is between December and March. The weather from April is ideal for trekking and sightseeing, while the summer months from May to September are the perfect time to visit the coastal resorts.
Out and About
Located in south eastern Europe, Slovenia conjures up images of snow-dusted mountains, sleepy hilltop villages and miles and miles of forests but there is much more to Slovenia than meets the eye.
First on the list really has to be the Postonjna Cave which is a network of 20km of passages, galleries and chambers full of stalagmites and stalactites. Visitors can hop on board the cave train and admire the size and splendour of the most visited show caves in Europe.
Another major tourist attraction is Ljubljanski Castle which is situated in the capital, you can take a guided tour to learn all about the history or go to one of the many cultural events including concerts, exhibitions and theatre performances that are held here each year. It's also worth having a wander down to the Town Square which has St Nicolas Cathedral at one end and the Robba's Fountain at the other end.
Not to be missed is Bled Castle which overlooks the beautiful Lake Bled and is perhaps one of the most charming castles in Europe. It's quite a hike to the top but certainly well worth the climb and you will be rewarded with some fantastic views so make sure you have your camera with you.
If you are looking for something for the kids then a trip to the zoo is advisable, it is situated within walking distance from the town centre and features numerous species of wild animals in their natural environment. There is also an aquarium in the City park which has many different species of fish, reptiles, amphibians and insects.
With so many paths, trails, rivers and mountains to be explored, this is the ideal place to try out one of the many outdoor activities on offer such as cycling, horse riding, rock climbing, sailing, diving, golf and of course, skiing in winter.
