Peniscola, Costa del Azahar, Spain
Peniscola is a Valencian municipality located on the Costa del Azahar along the eastern Mediterranean coast of Spain in the province of Castello. Peniscola is a fortified seaport which as been built on a rocky headland and is attached to the town by a thin strip of land.
The historical town of Pensicola is very picturesque and full of atmosphere, it really is a great place to holiday.

There are plenty of bars and restaurants, and a decent supermarket, Consum, near the riverbank. The resort is becoming ever more popular, perhaps due to the endless pristine beaches.
Peniscola is situated approx 128km from Reus Airport, 1 hr and 30min coach transfer.
Beaches
The main beach in Peniscola is 5km long and has been awarded the 'blue flag'. The gentle sloping sands and calm waters makes it perfect for families with children. The beach is very popular and with many facilities such as lifeguards, children's games, beach volleyball, pedal boats and sun loungers, it is easy to see why. There are also many smaller beaches, surrounded by coves and rocky cliffs which are perfect for scuba diving and snorkelling.
The promenade runs along the main beach, all the way to the town of Benicarlo and is lined with cafes, restaurants, newsagents and shops where you will find a variety of products especially for a beach holiday.
Things to Do
The main landmark of the town of Peniscola is the medieval castle which juts out into the sea and is enclosed by both the ancient town walls and the sea on almost all sides. The castle is also surrounded by gardens and you will find almost every space on the hill within the castles compound is covered.
There are many festivals held throughout the year in Peniscola, one of them being the annual comedy film festival that draws in Spanish and foreign actors and filmmakers.
Out and About
Peniscola is a mix of old and new, the beautiful old quarter is full of quaint white-walled houses and narrow winding streets with a great range of bars and restaurants. The old town really does come alive at night and is well worth a visit.
The area is famous for it's fish dishes and there is no shortage of places to sample the freshly caught fish.
The weather and the landscape make ideal conditions for many activities such as walking, hiking, paint ball, cycling, sailing, windsurfing, water skiing and fishing. There are many other things to do such as museums, concerts, festivals, markets and general sightseeing so there is no shortage of things to see and do.

As well as having lots going on in the town of Peniscola, there is lots to do nearby.
For something a little different, visit the planetarium in Castellon. The planetarium, complete with astronomical audiovisuals also has three exhibition rooms, a conference room and an outside area with gardens and a sundial.
Fantasy World in Oropesa offers a safari train, mechanical animals, race track, carousel, boats, games and flying saucers.
There is a water park in Benicassim which features tons of water slides, wave pool, lake area with hydrotherapy service, thermal jets and jacuzzi and a space shot, something for everyone to enjoy a great day out and keep cool.
If you fancy getting away from the usual attractions, take a trip to Valencia which is just an hour away or Barcelona which is 2 hours away and you will find heaps to do such as shopping, dining and a whole host of sights to see and things to do.
