Nevada

Nevada Hotels

Nevada offers an abundance of recreational activities, unique attractions, exciting events, special exhibits and world class entertainment.

The most popular destination in Nevada has to be Las Vegas, with a 4 mile long boulevard bursting with lights and energy, there is always something going on here.

Among the places to visit in Nevada are The Hoover Dam, Great Basin National Park, Cathedral Gorge and Lake Tahoe, all are amazing and with Nevada being one of the driest states you can enjoy sightseeing in great weather.

How Hot?

Las Vegas is situated in the south of Nevada, which has a dry, desert climate.

The ideal time to visit and also the most popular is in early spring and late autumn; temperatures at this time are still warm while not at scorching summer levels.

During the peak summer months temperatures are in excess of 100ºF (40ºF) where the nights remain in the eighties.

Winter months are mild, where average high temperatures from December to February range from 57-62ºF, though nights are cold with December and January having an average low of 33ºF (1ºC).

Out and About

As the 7th largest state in America, Nevada offers so much more than the glitzy lifestyle and bright lights of Las Vegas. With a landscape stretching from the Mojave Desert to the Great Basin, there is no shortage of things to do and you may well struggle to fit everything in.

Probably the most well known resort has to be Las Vegas, with it's non stop partying and great variety of entertainment. There really is something to suit everyone here, with over 100 world-class shows, designer shopping, gourmet dining, spa retreats, a number of nightclubs, international sporting events, rollercoasters and, of course casinos galore. There are also some pretty amazing hotels in Las Vegas and some of them have their own rollercoasters, waterparks and even circuses.

For those who like the sound of Las Vegas but find it a little overwhelming, take a trip to Reno which is a miniature version of Las Vegas. Reno still has the bright lights, roulette wheels and kitsch shows but it is overshadowed by amazing scenery and snow-capped mountains.

Skiing isn't something which may automatically spring to mind when taking a holiday to Nevada but Lake Tahoe is home to 15 ski resorts and then there is the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard resort in Las Vegas. Snowmobiling and heli-skiing are also popular here so if it's winter activities you are looking for, then this is the place to be.

There is a whole host of things to see in the area such as the mini-glaciers of the Great Basin National Park, the white expanse of the Bonneville Salt Flats and the deep-cut gorges of the Red Rock Canyon and plenty of ways to explore, whether it be hiking, biking, kayaking or white-water rafting, all of which will offer a completely different experience.

Take a day out and visit one of the great engineering marvels of the modern world, Hoover Dam. Take a trip in the elevator to the bottom of the dam to see the inner- workings of the dam or stay up top and enjoy the fantastic views of the dam, Lake Meade and the Colorado River. If you fancy taking to the skies, hop on board a helicopter and take the amazing journey over the Grand Canyon, it really is the trip of a lifetime. These are just a couple of the many trips available from Nevada, there are so many more just waiting to be explored.

Out for Lunch!

Nevada cuisine is a typical American menu, with bacon, eggs, fries, steak and hamburgers available almost everywhere, particularly in the smaller towns with one diner with 100 mile radius. The exception to this is in the north region, where you can find Basque restaurants; traditionally food is served family-style, with seating on benches at long tables. A Basque menu can include leg of lamb, chicken, pig's feet and chateaubriand (one big slab of meat cooked between two thin ones, the outer pieces are thrown away, leaving the core cooked to rare perfection).

If you are headed to the bright lights of Las Vegas, the birthplace of the 'all you can eat' cheap buffet, now seen in many hotels today then you can expect to find pretty much any cuisine.

Whether you're travelling on a budget looking for hearty comfort food or no expense spared haute cuisine there's a restaurant or diner to suit you, from the worldwide chains and hotel restaurants to one off unique experiences and celebrity chef run gourmet restaurants.
