Map of Lemnos
With a Mediterranean climate, Lemnos tends to have warm and dry summers and cold and wet winters. There can be a little rainfall in the summer but certainly the majority of rain is in the winter.
The hottest months tend to be July and August when temperatures can reach 30°C (86°F). January and February are the coldest months when temperatures can get as low as 6°C (43°F)
Out and About
The island of Lemnos is rich in history and natural beauty with many castles and archaeological sites to visit. It is also home to one of the prettiest harbours in Greece, beautiful beaches and traditional villages untouched by mass tourism.
The most popular place to stay is Myrina, the capital. Myrina has a beautiful Venetian castle which overlooks the town and is surrounded by massive formations of volcanic rock. There are many cafes and restaurants situated around the harbour and the many neo-classical and Ottoman buildings make for an interesting wander round the narrow lanes and streets.
At Poliochni, you can find the remnants of four cities, the oldest of which predates Troy, possibly the oldest known town settlement in Europe and is a site of world significance. With so much history and amazing sights to see, Poliochni is well worth a visit.
There are also some really nice beaches here so if you fancy having a relaxing day on the beach instead of some sightseeing then you will not be disappointed.
Out for Lunch!
If it's a fulfilling meal you want then dine in Lemnos where the tavernas offer you simple styled food with plenty of choice. Seafood and meat dishes are very popular as well as a typical Greek cuisine. Enjoy a meze where you can try lots of different Greek dishes. Order a variety of starters and appetizers, place them in the middle of the table for all to enjoy. By the boat dock of Kotsinas there are plenty of fish tavernas serving freshly caught seafood. In Tsimandria you will find traditional roast and wine and up in Sardes there are traditional local recipes like rooster and homemade pasta.
Restaurants are found all over the country in the villages. Even the smallest of villages will have small intimate cafes and snack bars where you can try traditional snacks and drink raki.
