The town of El Ejido lies 33 kilometres from the provincial capital Almeria. The climate offers temperatures of approx 27 degrees in the summer and 15 degrees in the winter, with 3,000 hours of sun annually.

El Ejido is a modern town of contemporary architecture, surrounded by fruit and salad farms. Set inland it is just minutes from the beaches, golf course and lake at Almerimar. It also has excellent road links for those looking to explore the surrounding area, villages and natural landscapes of Almeria. Almeria Airport is about 55km away, around 1 hours drive.

Beaches

El Ejido is an inland town, lying just 7km in from the beaches at Almerimar where a good variety of water sports are available including diving, sailing, windsurfing and kitesurfing. Almerimar Beach is wide, sandy and well serviced, extending for approx 4km around the bay to the Marina. Almerimar beach continues after the Marina for approx 400 metres where it is backed by a promenade and thereafter it is backed by sand dunes and wetlands.

Things to Do

Enjoy the sports and leisure facilities at Almerimar. In addition to the watersports and boating experiences available at the beach and marina, the resort is home to the Victoria Lake where you can go rowing or canoeing and the Almerimar Golf Course.

For family fun there is a Karting Track in Almerimar and in Roquetas de Mar the water park opens from June to September.

The last weekend of April and the last weekend of June see the streets of El Ejido filled with parades, medieval markets, shows and fairgrounds for the annual festivals of San Marco and San Isidro.

Out and About

This Andalucian town is surrounded by a diversity of landscapes offering a myriad of tours and adventures. All within 45 minutes drive, you have the mountains of the Sierra Nevada, the rugged terrain and Wild West theme parks in the Tabernas Desert and the secluded coves and wetlands of the Cabo de Gata coastal nature park.

Historic sights of interest include the Ciavieja Roman mosaic which is housed in the Cultural Centre.

Nearby Attractions

El Ejido is surrounded by the E15 and the A7 providing quick access to nearby towns and resorts with Adra, Roquetas de Mar and Aguadulce all being within 20 - 25 minutes drive. The shopping streets of Almeria are approx 30 minutes drive away. In Almeria you can also browse the old quarter, the Cathedral and explore the impressive Alcazabar, its gardens, ruins and castle.
