We have visited Calafell several times for the annual High Rockabilly music festival, which has been running for twelve years. As it is a good boost for the economy, the local community look forward to this event and are very welcoming and friendly. Some of the bars and restaurants even play rockabilly music for the visitors. The resort is perfect- not too big, un-Anglicised, laid back, family-orientated, great beach with clean sea, superb local food. For a relaxing break I would highly recommend it.

Calafell has 5km of beautiful golden 'Blue Flag' beach, stretching from the Segur Yacht Club to L'Estany Beach. The calm waters and gentle slopes make it ideal for families with small children. Along with a variety of water sports, there is also children's play areas, sun loungers and awnings for hire and many walkways, making the beaches accessible to all.
Things to Do
There is plenty to see in this historical town, such as the medieval castle, ruins of a Roman Villa and the 11th century Romanesque church of Santa Creu.
Hop on board the mini train for a quick and easy way to get around the resort. After your relaxing trip on the train, why not have a game of mini golf, a great way for the whole family to have fun together.
The resort is perfect if you want to get out and about and enjoy the fresh air. There are various paths that take you through the hills and forests to let you make the most of the beautiful mountains and countryside.
Calafell is home to La Graiera Golf Course which has 2, 18-hole courses, one of which is a pitch and putt, the other is an official championship course. There is a driving range and the opportunity to get golf lessons.
Out and About
Calafell has a good variety of restaurants, catering for all tastes. Given its seaside location, there are lots of fish dishes available and you really must try Fideua with Alliolo which is a tasty prawn stew, soaked in garlic sauce. As well as lots of fish restaurants, there is also a good selection of international restaurants.
Your night does not need to end after dinner as there is lots of family-friendly entertainment on offer and lots of bars and lively discos.
As well as a great variety of shops such as clothes, gifts, florists, shoe shops and hairdressers, there is a municipal market which sells fresh quality products and an outdoor market held on Tuesdays and Fridays which sells clothes, household items as well as meat and vegetables. You will be expected to barter for your goods so it's the perfect way to secure a bargain.
Although there is lots to do in the resort of Calafell, there is heaps going on in the surrounding area, so whatever you like doing on holiday, you will not be disappointed.
Just outside the resort you will find a great pitch and putt course for the whole family to enjoy and there a go kart track which is great for the more adventurous.
If you fancy a day out in Barcelona, it is approx an hour away and is full of fantastic buildings, shopping and various attractions which all add up to a great day out.
For the thrill seekers out there, there is Port Aventura Theme Park which is approx 30 minutes drive away and offers many rides and attractions for all ages. There is also a water park right beside the theme park so there is tons to keep everyone occupied.
