Bardolino, Lake Garda, Italy

Sitting on the eastern shore of Lake Garda is the town of Bardolino, one of Lake Garda's most popular and lively resorts, with a huge assortment of bars, pizzerias and restaurants packed into its traffic-free streets as they wind their way down to the town's impressive main piazza.

The beautiful lake is a great place to relax, do a bit of sunbathing, swimming or even take part in watersports. Bardolino is well-known for its fine winemaking and the surrounding hills are home to hundreds of vineyards.

I loved Bardolino. There was something for everybody to do. It was central for visiting other parts of the lake. The facilities on the lake were very much for active people. Would visit Bardolino again in the future.

Things To Do

The wine industry plays a focal part of things to do for tourists visiting Bardolino. A visit to the wine museum is the perfect way to learn of the wines the area has to offer, in addition wine tasting is available in numerous vineyards found close by. There are even three annual festivals celebrating the region’s winemaking.

Lake Garda is ideal for enjoying land and water sports; with plenty of options available all around the lake, where there are many sailing schools, dives centres and tennis courts to be found. Waterskiing and jet-skis are only available in the south area of the lake where it’s wider and calmer and better suited for these activities.

The southern end of Lake Garda is home to a number of challenging golf courses, most of which are within easy reach of the holiday resorts.

Out and About

Whilst driving around Lake Garda is possible, narrow windy roads and limited parking spaces mean it’s not the easiest, the simplest option is across the water by boat. There are a number of choices available; car ferry, the slowest option; hydrofoil, the quickest; motorised catamaran; and paddle steamer, though limited towns are covered, the paddle steamer is an ideal choice for a more leisurely journey.

The towns and villages around the lake offer an abundance of cafes, restaurants and ice-cream parlours; good shopping opportunities too, where the larger the town the more shops and greater variety you’ll find. Most of the towns around the lake have a weekly market, nd well worth a browse for the wide selection available; Bardolino’s market takes place every Thursday.
