Beaches

At over 3km, Son Bou beach is the longest beach in Menorca and also one of the most popular. The golden sand is soft and the water is warm and shallow, perfect for those with small children, although the current can be quite strong so you will need to keep an eye on them and the flag warning system.

There are sun loungers and umbrellas available and a selection of water sports for those who dare. There are 3 beach bars here which serve hot food and drinks.

Further down the coast, there is Playa de Binigaus which is a huge beach, very beautiful and not as busy as other areas which is perhaps why it is popular with nudists.

Things to Do

There are many water sports available here and scuba diving is one of the most popular ones. There is a dive school here which will be happy to provide lessons and excursions round all the neighbouring dive sites and coral reefs, of which there are many.

For a fun family day out, visit the Maze Them Park which is geared towards children and has a treasure hunt set in a maze, water slides, arcades and loads of natural wildlife to keep the children entertained. There is also a bowling alley in the resort and a mini train that goes round the resort.

Venture out to the east end of the island to the Cap De Penyes where the cliff area is spotted with caves, which were and still are villagers caves. This ancient site is quite amazing and there is also a Christian Basilica.

Out and About

There are numerous restaurants which serve a variety of dishes such as British, International and Mediterranean. There will be many opportunities to sample the fresh fish and seafood dishes from the many seafront restaurants. There are also some bars and restaurants to be found in the commercial centre. There is a handful of bars and although there is one disco, nightlife is still relatively low key, with most of the entertainment being centred around the hotels.

There are several shops, ranging from souvenir shops to basic clothes shops so you will be able to find the basics but if you want to go on a shopping spree, who will need to venture to the capital, Mahon which is not far away.

Nearby Attractions

Take a trip to the small town of Es Mercadel with pretty little streets and rustic whitewashed houses. Once you have finished exploring, you may want to climb Monte Toro, Menorca's highest mountain. There are some fantastic views to be seen from the top and there is also a small cafe for refreshments.

The town of Alaior is just a 15 minute bus ride away and is famous for its cheese production and the manufacture of leather shoes. There is a cheese factory/museum where you will learn how the cheese is made and also get to sample some. Get yourself to one of the factory outlets and grab great quality leather shoes at a bargain price. Alaior also hosts a market on a Wednesday evening and you will be able to haggle for cheese, jewellery, pottery and ceramics.

Another place to grab a bargain is Ferreries. There are factory outlets for one of the islands most famous upmarket leather shoes and goods manufacturer, Jamie Mascaro. A lot of these items may well be found in exclusive shops back home but can be snapped up at bargain prices here.

The capital, Mahon also has it's fair share of historic buildings such as La Mola, a gigantic fort which is located at the harbour side and the Baroque church of Santa Maria to name but a few. Many people come to Mahon to shop and will certainly not be disappointed. There are many bars and restaurants and nightclubs too, so it may well be worth saying over to take full advantage of what Mahon has to offer.
