My 14 night stay at the Rehana Sharm resort started off really well, the hotel at night is absolutely stunning. My mum and I were greeted by the staff and given some information about the hotel and taken by golf buggy to our room. The room was lovely, spacious and well equipped however the aerial for the television was hanging out the wall on a loose socket (despite being mentioned to the staff this was never fixed during our stay). The restaurant is experience is a shambles; staff cannot keep up with cleaning tables and laying out cutlery. You're left wandering around looking for anyone who might be vacating from a table imminently. The food in the main restaurant was a bit hit and miss, breakfasts were good, omelettes, pancakes, kids cereals, toast etc. But the hot buffet I can't really comment on as I only tried it once. Raw looking fried eggs in Bain Marie's, tiny hot dog style chicken or beef sausages, "French toast" which looked a bit like eggy bread. Unfortunately most of the 'hot' buffet was warm at best. Many Russian guests at this hotel and I feel all the menus were geared toward them, lots of salads and vegetables at breakfast for example. The main meals in the main restaurant were on average, terrible. Again food was luke warm, unappealing and tasted really salty. There were not a lot of 'main meals' on selection, maybe one or two, and mostly vegetables and salad. Pudding consisted of mountains of tiny cakes and pastries. One tiny bar for the whole main restaurant, with self serve coffees teas and orange juices. The a la carte restaurants were fantastic. The food was delicious, hot and the staff very attentive. You get one free visit to each during your stay but we went several times after being invited back by the a la carte restaurant staff. Bars are only frequented by the Russian guests who out number British by about 6:1. The lobby bar sprawled across the reception/ lobby area of the hotel as well as outside and there are other bars located around the resort, the food court bar - only went there once as it wasn't close to my apartment. Mainly frequented the Starfish bar which was good, the staff there are very friendly and often would not need to go to the bar and ask for a drink, one would automatically be sent over. There are a number of pools at the hotel, the biggest one which is directly in front of the lobby is where the entertainment happens and it's the only heated pool. I did not use this one as it felt quite unfriendly with no other British guests and lots of crazed children (and adults) dive bombing the pool. I mainly used the sunrise pool which has a bar, located in front of the 9000 blocks, (most English are housed in the 9000s) and the sun beds are very comfy, with towels provided, but this pool doesn't catch the sun so well, so in week 2 we moved round to the pool outside the main restaurant which is beautifully sunny and also has a swim up bar. The water was cold but bearable once you were in it! You get a bit hassled by the spa people and people offering trips are allowed to come into the hotel too so if you're not interested just make sure you clearly say no thank you. (La Shukran would be no thank you in arabic - useful as you can say you've been many times before to Egypt and have no interest in trips - which was my case!)
We went a couple of times to the beach located at the Rehana Royal hotel which is about a 7 minute walk through a tunnel under the main road. The beach is not sandy and is quite rocky, if you're after a sandy beach I think really Naama bay is the place to go, you can get a shuttle for a small price (I think it works out to about £4 return each) and is good for beaches and shopping. Back to the hotel beach however - you get tons of hassle here from trip organisers and even if you're not interested half the time they want to talk to you anyway. It's just the Egyptian way, the people are very friendly and inquisitive. Hotel wifi is very expensive, $15 for 24h access which is about £10 and the connection is really unreliable, you can only really get any sort of good connection in the lobby but I mostly wanted to use my phone in and around the apartment, by the pool and in the bar in the evening. Entertainment in the evening we didn't attend due to the number of Russian guests we felt it would be in Russian language and aimed toward them, but there was a fire show down by the food court one night, you have to go early though or else you won't see a thing, and on the first week a big fight broke out between a group of English and and group of Russians which I heard led to the removal of some guests. The loud music at night is completely unacceptable, sometimes went on until 2am and would be heard all round the hotel and apartments. The staff on the whole are good - reception are mostly helpful but a few rude ones, bar staff, good and friendly, restaurant waiters - mostly friendly but hugely overworked. The cleaners do a great job of looking after public areas and rooms and this often goes a bit unrecognised. I think the staff quite like us polite English people and all are happy to say hello and have a little chat with you.

The food was awful and the pools freezing but the grounds were nice and plenty of sunbeds. Other guests were mainly Russian and rude. Great location.

The resort overall is lovely. Let me state that up front and we had a lovely relaxing week and feel very fortunate to have been away at a time when the weather in the UK was at its worst. So let me preface the review with that to get some balance.
The resort lies around 10 minutes from the airport but be aware if you take a transfer you will be last off the bus. The complex is the closest to the airport but it's on the opposite side of the dual carriageway. So the bus drops off everyone on the opposite side of the road first and you will be the last drop off. Don't let that happen. Ask to be dropped outside the Rehana Royal which is opposite the Rehana Sharm Resort. Just walk across the road with your case so much easier than being stuck on the bus for the 40 minutes we didn't need to be.
We were allocated a room on arrival which was dreadful. Wires hanging out of the wall, plasterboard nailed to a window, towel rail dropped off . Awful. However we asked to move and were given the choice of where we wanted to be and chose a room over the pool in block 5. It was a lovely room with a view over the pool we wanted- why weren't we allocated a room like that on arrival, particularly as the place was nowhere near full.
The layout of the complex, the grounds, the bars etc. are all very well maintained. The rooms are at best tired at worse dangerous, like our first one. However they are clean and towels and linen changed daily.
There was a safe in the room which was free and easy to use. A fridge was provided and a big water left in it daily. A hospitality tray with kettle etc. is available on request as are extra pillows.
There are several pool all spotlessly clean and being continually cleaned all day long. The main heated pool is also the location of the recreation/animation team who I'm given to understand are fabulous and indeed seem very friendly. We chose the quieter Dolphin pool which although wasn't heated (and freezing cold) was a lovely relaxed setting and mainly adults only.
Now, I chose this hotel as it offered 4 a la carte restaurants, Lebanese- very nice but not a la carte- more a set menu but good all the same. the Italian- at least provided a choice however was just 'ok', the Indian- dreadful, poor service, dirty uncleared tables and little choice of food and a Mexican which given the Indian experience we decided to ditch.
This was the main disappointment for us- given our evening is usually spent having a meal and a nice bottle of wine. The main restaurant was fine for breakfast and lunch but I prefer waiter service for an evening meal so the buffet style dining is not for me. That's not to say the staff in the main restaurant weren't good- they were fab actually.
For me though the biggest issue was the wine. Oh my goodness, it was dreadful. I don't mean it wasn't a nice vintage I mean it was literally undrinkable. None of the pool bars served wine anyway which in itself was a problem for me as it is my preferred tipple but the lobby bar and the restaurants served the worst wine ever. I don't think they get that many Brits and perhaps Europeans in general like wine- possibly as they tend to cater more for their Russian guests- who make up the majority. Cocktails are plentiful although you do notice that the alcohol contained within is very cheap. I don't want to sound picky but the food and drink let the whole place down for me and for other Brits we spoke to but the other guests couldn't get enough.
I've given this complex a good rating because the layout is good, the grounds are beautiful and the staff couldn't do enough- from the lad who serviced the room, the towel boy at the pool and the staff at the bars etc - all lovely. We had a minor altercation one day when one of our towels was 'removed' from the pool and the reception wanted to charge us $20 to replace it as we had 'lost' it. It was eventually cleared up though- but be aware of other guests going for early morning swims and taking towels from sunbeds - as we observed.
