Lovely hotel, great staff and the food was fabulous. The grounds of this hotel and the lagoon are amazing. Room was cleaned daily and fridge stocked with drinks. There is a free safe in your room. Pools were clean and water was warm. Pool towels are supplied and can be swapped each day for clean ones. Animation team were great fun as were the people selling trips and massages etc. If you get a green flag to put on your parasol they won't try to sell you anything but will stop for a chat. Night shows were good. Wide mix of nationalities.

The rooms are large and bright, the balcony is a bit rickety. The bathroom, however, has no natural light and the bulbs are quite dull. The housekeeping staff do a great job, but if you get a bad one, just speak to Guest Relations (dial 0 or pop in to their office near Palm restaurant) and they'll sort out any problems you have.

With a choice of 11 bars, there's always somewhere to grab a drink and, with a couple of exceptions, the bar staff are friendly and helpful. Make sure to get yourself a surprise cocktail or mocktail from Sayed at the Breeze Bar on the beach. The hotels general cleanliness is fantastic. The gardeners, often forgotten, do a fantastic job keeping the grounds looking beautiful and the grass cut.

Only used the Olympic pool for the confined water part of my Open Water Diving course - based on what I saw in there, I wouldn't use any of the pools to swim in! Empty butter packets, bits of tissue, grime on the bottom - not very hygienic! Daily replacement of beach towels. Various restaurants all included in AI.

The hotel is a 25-30 minute taxi ride to Old Town Hurghada and the Marina, where there is lots to do. If you want to go shopping, Senzo Mall is just a short taxi ride away. Hotel wifi isn't great, so look into hiring a wifi unit from Jasmine Tours or Sinai Excursions (find them both on Facebook). Don't pay over the top with the hotel taxi, head out to the front of the hotel and barter with the orange and blue taxis or call ABC (via whatsapp or viber) to book a cheaper private car.

If you go to any Egyptian hotel, please don't tip in coins! The staff can't change them up.

Although the hotel is huge, we were treated as if we were the only guests on the resort. The rooms, pools, restaurants and lagoon were in pristine condition, everything clean and beautifully maintained. The gardens were immense with beautiful nicotiana flowers adorning the walkways and bougainvillea in glorious colours in full bloom spreading up the three storey accommodation blocks. The food in the main restaurant was piping hot, this was unusual as we've stayed in many resorts and always found the food was cold. The four a la carte restaurants were also extremely well maintained and their food was well presented and very tasty. Our room was well equipped, other than a kettle for the morning cuppa, we had checked this out before we arrived and brought our own. The fridge was restocked with fizzy drinks and water every day.

The three swimming pools are maintained to the proper standards, the Olympic size pool was owned off for training purposes and the huge lagoon was clean and always space for sunbeds. We love the camel, Casanova who strolled around the beach and was always looking for an apple or bread roll smuggled out of the restaurant. There was even a windsurfing school that I had a go for the first time and had a great experience in learning in safe waters. There is a small coral reef, just off the beach where I snorkelled and watched a blue spotted ray and parrot fish glide past.

The hotel itself and the grounds and pools are brilliant, the staff are very friendly and helpful, there is plenty to do, its really good for children. The grounds are very well maintained with gardeners working all hours. There are bridges in main pool over to sunbeds which look lovely on a night when all lit up. Rooms are cleaned daily. The only fault with the hotel is the food in the main restaurant, they do not cater for English at all (not even chips) but you can book in other restaurants which are nice, especially the Mexican but you have to go to office at 2 everyday to book and you have to book 24hrs in advance so it is a bit of a pain. The food at the snack bars is ok though and the restaurant is 24 hrs. During our stay we were asked several times at different bars and restaurants to fill surveys in and was told it was because they are going to be improving the food. Will definitely visit again.

It was fabulous they are making changes for the better, which was nice to see from our previous visit in December / January. Would love to go back around November for a few weeks and see what other changes may have been made. The grounds are beautiful, the rooms although spacious are in need of some tlc. Cannot fault the staff they are amazing and the Desert Rose should be proud of them.

The hotel is dated and in need of a refurbishment. The food was awful, I would class the restaurant as a very noisy canteen. All the staff are very pleasant and helpful, they can't do enough for you. The sunbeds are very old and uncomfortable.

On the whole the resort was ok! It may have been 5 star 10 years ago but it has a very dated feel about it. The rooms in particular. Less time folding our towels into cute animals and more on basic cleaning would have done. The entertainment was poor needs working on. The food was of a good standard everywhere bar the main restaurant (the palm), very bland and repetitive. The location was fine and the cleanliness around and in the hotel was very good, with the exception of the pier and snorkelling area immediately around it, lots of debris about. The sales staff of some of extra activities were a little excessive at times. That said, all the staff, from the front desk to the gardeners, were always very polite and helpful at all times. We always felt comfortable and welcome. In all a nice break and value for money. If not in our spoilt little world 5 star!

As regular travellers to hotels in Sharm and Hurghada, we booked the Desert Rose because the reviews were ok and it was a reasonable price. Our expectations were low, so what a pleasant surprise we received.

On walking through the front door, reception was ok, but nothing spectacular. Check in was stressful, not enough staff and they were very grumpy. They have not quite grasped the art of good customer service. We must say they were the only staff we met throughout our holiday that were like this. Our experience rapidly changed as we walked through the doors to the outside area. Wow! Straight in front of us, the pool bar was lit up with lots of seating and live music playing. To our left was the Italian restaurant, which was very modern and bright with a lovely outside seating area, and we soon became regular visitors there. On our right was the Rose bar. We dropped our bags and headed straight to the Rose Bar for our first beers! This bar is lovely with friendly waiter service from beginning to end (especially from Hany).

The rooms are old and tired, no flat screen TV and some cracked and mouldy tiles throughout, but the lovely view from our balcony of the pool and gardens more than made up for it. The room was clean, bed was comfortable, water always hot and the shower had power! Money appears to have been spent on all the other areas rather than the rooms. All outside areas are well kept and tidy. The gardens and walk areas are lovely and immaculate in appearance. There are 2 large family pools one with a couple of small slides and the other with a swim up bar, both have nice shallow areas and then there is the Olympic sized swimming pool for the more sporty and competitive. Not forgetting the small aqua park, which we didn’t try but is another facility available to you.

There are 3 outside bar areas with seating scattered through the resort as you walk towards the beach that are open from 8am until very late. Each one gives you waiter service and a good selection of drinks and at night entertainment is laid on at each, which includes karaoke, singers, flutist and guitar player. They are all well lit up and the ambience of each is excellent. The large manmade lagoon area has lots of sun beds around it and again 3 Beach Bars. Walk around the lagoon and there is the fish restaurant overlooking the sea where, if you have a black band, you can have your breakfast. Over the bridge is the Bella Vista Bar where you can sit and look out to the sea or back to the lagoon. There is also a Billiard Bar, a Night Club and nightly shows in the Amphitheatre.

Snorkelling is ok in the sea, but the water was a little choppy during our stay and as such the clarity of the water was poor, however, we still saw many type of fish and some decent coral reefs.

The main restaurant is one of the better ones that we have experienced for an all-inclusive hotel. It was very busy at times but it has lots of separate eating areas, including an outside area. This seems to reduce the manic, noisy feel we have experienced in other hotels. The food was always hot, not a massive choice but there was the usual, including pasta and omelette stations and BBQ meat/fish/chicken etc and a children’s area serving chips, pizza etc. Each night had a theme and the food did regularly change. At present guests with a black band are entitled to use the a la cartes for all meals. There are 4 to choose from including the Fish, Mexican and Lebanese. We made the most of this and the Italian became our favourite, for the ambience, brilliant staff and the excellent food. A massive thanks to Mostafa the Manager, Ramy, Mohamad, Ahmed, Manar and the Chef (who we never met). You made our holiday extra special.

After lots of visits to Egyptian hotels, this one ticks nearly all the boxes for us. There were a lot of Egyptian families at the hotel and only a few Europeans and at times the hotel was 100% full, although it didn’t feel full with no queuing at the bars or fighting for sun beds. Guest relations sorted out quickly and efficiently any niggles we had and could not do enough for us. Tea/coffee facilities, irons etc were available and you just needed to ask. We are close to booking The Desert Rose for our family holiday next year. There will be 11 of us with ages ranging from 1 yr to 51. In our opinion this hotel has everything we want and more to everyone happy. Thank-you to all the excellent and friendly staff for making our holiday so relaxing and great.

This is the second time we have been to the Desert Rose, and it keeps on getting better! The staff are all fantastic. We were there for our 12th wedding anniversary, and I can honestly say we were treated like royalty - nothing was too much trouble, we had the most relaxing holiday ever! The rooms are cleaned daily, along with the towels. The hotel was quieter in February than it was last July, so there was no problem with sun loungers. It's great that you don't have to bring towels, you can exchange the beach/pool towels whenever you want - even at the beach. The food was improved on last year - although I still miss my bacon! But there is always a good variety of food to choose from and cooked well in the main buffet, be careful when eating from the outside grill though when it is busy - check that it is cooked properly! The chef is always happy to help if you have any doubts. You can book a meal free in one of the restaurants for free, the Italian is beautiful, Mexican was also very good - and there is also Lebanese and Sea Food restaurants on site. The hotel is still mainly accommodated by Russian guests, but this only makes all the staff welcome English guests even more. Definitely try the boat trip for a day out - snorkelling in the Red Sea is amazing! It's a very family friendly hotel and they have a great kids play area, the nightly entertainment is mainly in the amphitheatre although there is usually some entertainment at each of the bars of an evening - mostly Russian music unfortunately, but the bar staff are entertaining anyway! Especially Ahmed. If you want a nice relaxing, cheap holiday with guaranteed sunshine I would definitely recommend this hotel.
