Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi is a large city with high rise hotels, opulent shopping centres, large parks and gardens and luxurious hotel chains.

The core of Abu Dhabi is an island connected to the mainland via the Maqta and Musaffah bridges. The larger area of the island makes the city centre with the corniche running beside the coast.

Things to See

There is little historical attractions in Abu Dhabi however there are many interesting sights to see and many new attractions are currently being completed.

The most popular place to visit is the corniche which is the spectacular waterfront which stretches for miles and offers everything from a shopping mall to activities including go-carting, playgrounds and even stretches of sandy beaches.

Motorsports fans should visit Yas Island which features a formula one racetrack, Ferrari theme park, waterpark and extensive shopping centre.

In addition other attractions include the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, the 6th largest mosque and can be easily reached via public bus.

Things to Do

Abu Dhabi is a shoppers dream destination! There are many shopping centres which offer everything from designer shops to boutique style shops and visitors can pretty much find everything possible to buy. The Marina Mall even boasts a musical fountain and ceilings which thunder and rain.

Nearly all the hotels and private clubs have swimming pools and their own private beaches.

Many local companies offer desert safaris and dune buggy excursions and some have sunset trips. Camel racing is held twice a week and is a popular sport to watch for visitors.

Eating Out

Visitors can enjoy a wide range of restaurants offering everything from fast food to the more expensive hotel restaurants.

Visitors should always check the calender as during the month of Ramadan restaurants are closed during the day and it is against the law to eat or drink anything, even water, in public. Hotels usually have one restaurant open during the day for non-muslims. In the evenings when eating is permitted there is a festival type atmosphere with lavish banquets.

Only restaurants in hotels are permitted to serve alcohol and therefore all nightlife can be found at the hotels.
