Food and drink in St Lucia

One of the local specialities you have to try out whilst you’re here is the islands favourite langouste . Lobster is loved worldwide for its delicately salty flavours and fantastic soft texture but the St Lucia lobster takes it to the next level. So thank the brave divers of the deep bays who fetch the good fresh from the sea each morning – it’s a must whilst you’re here! If you’re feeling a little home sick, this little dish may just be the answer. Accra takes a Caribbean twist on the British fish and chips, deep frying small balls of cod mixed with a mashup of fiery flavours to give these little crunchy bites of heaven some added heat! While you’re out and about across the island, you’re sure to bump into one of the most popular local dishes, fried plantains . Since they are found right across the island, it’s become a tradition to enjoy lightly fried plantain slices served with a spicy sauce as a side to many of the meals in local restaurants. Forget potatoes, in this part of the world breadfish takes over from chunky chips or French fries any day. Visiting St Lucia

Seeking a little cultural exploration from your island escape? This colourful island has many fantastic festivals, carnivals and celebrations taking place throughout the year. Every Friday the town of Gros Islet throws a huge foodie celebration, with funky reggae beats and a lively party atmosphere, locals flock here to tuck into tasty eats, enjoy a chinwag and even throw a few dance moves until the early hours of the morning. If you’re a lover of nature then you simply have to get out and explore the incredible landscapes and luscious greenery that are in abundance here. From a hiking mountain tour with incredible views of the majestic pitons, standing boldly out in the ocean, to deep-sea diving adventures, botanical gardens and waterfalls, there’s so much nature to discover. Another great attraction is the Sulphur Springs Volcano Park, where you can witness the fascinating active volcano up close in person. You can also take a bubbly mud bath here, this steamy heated bath will leave your skin feeling refreshed, there’s no other experience quite like it.

Flight times to St Lucia are take 9 hours on average from the UK and the island clocks in 4 hours behind our UK time. The currency locals use if the Caribbean dollar and the official language used here is English, so no need to worry about any language barriers. Check with your doctor before travelling regarding any vaccinations you may need before your trip. The rainy season in St Lucia runs from June – November so be sure to keep this in mind when booking your trip, although, in this tropical island, the sun is always shining.
