Sightseeing in Prague

Top of the list for many travellers is the iconic Charles Bridge. This 500m sculpture studded bridge is best seen before it starts to get too busy. So we’d recommend waking up extra early one morning so you can enjoy a delightful stroll across the famous bridge, admiring Prague’s beautiful scenery the way it was supposed to be seen.

When it comes to sightseeing, Prague has a plethora of top-rated attractions to tick off your list, like the bubbling city hub – Old Town Square. Home to the Old Town Hall and its famous astronomical clock, this picturesque corner of the city is towering with enchanted churches, gorgeous red-tiled terraces and cobbled street corners, so don’t forget your camera!

Seeking an off the beaten path hideaway to soak up some Prague culture? Look no further than Letná Park. Escape the busy city crowds and get a front-row seat at some of the best riverside views. On a clear day, you can see right out into the city and there’s even a scenic beer garden here to make it all the merrier.

Food and Drink in Prague

Eating and drinking is a huge part of life in Prague, but what should you order if you’re after a true taste of Prague cuisine? Well, the locals here love a Schnitzel. The traditional Prague Schnitzel is typically chicken or pork in a crispy breadcrumb batter that’s often served with the Czech’s favourite - creamy mashed potatoes. This hearty dish makes an excellent late lunch or dinner and there’s plenty of places you can snap one up in the city.

If you’ve got a real sweet tooth, then Prague’s answer to dessert is sure to be right up your street. Trdelník , or ‘Chimney Cakes’ as they are also known, can be spotted on almost every corner of the city. These doughy treats have a crisp outer shell and a soft buttery centre. They also tend to come with all the trimmings – be it Nutella, ice cream or juicy strawberries… the choice is yours.

When it comes to drinking, the Czech’s certainly love their beer, which is hardly a surprise as Prague has been named many times as the beer capital of Europe. The national beer here is Staropramen, but there are plenty more independent breweries in Prague offering all kinds of larger and ales to try out. There’s even a beer museum in the city, so if you’re into your beers – then this is the perfect afternoon activity for you.

Visiting Prague

Not only is a Prague city break great for sightseeing, but the nightlife here is also truly one of a kind. Home to 42 breweries and plenty more pubs, Prague attracts stag and hen dos, mates escapes and travellers from across the world to discover the plethora of pubs about town and taste the good stuff for themselves.

If you’re heading out for a night of fun in the city, then here are a few of the hotspots you should hit up en route. Make a quick pit stop at Hemingway Bar for an incredible cocktail to start the night the right way. Then head over to Chapeau Rouge to discover several storeys of groovy dancing and end the night in Lucerna Music Bar with all the best tunes until the early hours of the morning!

If you’re visiting Prague around wintertime, then you’re in luck as the run-up to Christmas can be a cracking time of year to visit the city. With shimmering light displays, ginormous Christmas trees and bustling Christmas markets – it’s a great choice for a winter city break. If you happen to be in town from November onwards, head over to Old Town Square and Wenceslas Square to find the best-mulled wine, Christmas gifts and delicious eats – what a treat!

Useful Info for Visiting Prague

It takes around two hours to fly from the UK to Prague and they are one hour ahead of us on the clock. The currency used in Prague is Korunas or Czech Crowns as it is also known. The conversion rate can, however, be quite confusing, so it’s good to keep a converter handy on your phone to check the prices when you’re out and about in the city. As Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic, the language used here is Czech. Like its neighbouring European counterparts, Prague tends to see sun-soaked summers and cold chilly winters - so bear this in mind when planning your trip. If you want to escape the tourist rush and extreme temperatures then May and June can be some of the best months to see the city in all its glory.
