Your Donations Have Helped Us Raise £10K for Rays of Sunshine - Thank You!

Posted by Sue Anderson, 7th Feb 2017

It's been a little while since we last updated you (our lovely customers) about our ongoing charity partnership Rays of Sunshine, a not-for-profit organisation which raises money to grant the wishes of seriously ill children.

So, we thought it was about time we let you know how much your generosity has helped to contribute and what wishes we've been able to help grant. Our partnership with Rays of Sunshine started back in the late summer of 2015 (hasn't time flown?) and we're absolutely over the moon to be able to announce that your kind donations have amassed to £10,832.24, to be precise.

10% of our customers choose to donate to the charity when booking their holidays, at the point of payment, which we're so thankful for. In 2016 alone, the amount donated was £10,258.69, a total we're hoping to beat this year.

So, what have your donations been used for? Well, the charity has been able to fulfil the wishes of seven children, including a 15-year-old boy name Ioan from Truro. After being diagnosed with Renal Failure at birth, Ioan needed a kidney transplant and now needs regular medication, blood tests and hospital check-ups.

Being a big fan of the rock band Alter Bridge, Rays of Sunshine used the donations from our customers to organise tickets for Ioan and his family to the band's show at the Motorpoint Arena in Cardiff; after which he got to go backstage to meet and chat to the band and receive some signed merchandise.

An 8-year-old boy named Logan (pictured) from Essex also had his wish to visit Windsor's LEGOLAND granted thanks to you all. Logan lives with a Congenital Heart Condition after being diagnosed during his mother's 20-week scan and has had to undergo three open heart surgeries and attend hospital check-ups and scans regularly. He got to stay in the LEGOLAND resort hotel with his family and spend two days exploring the theme park.

We really can't thank our customers enough for their generous donations that have helped to grant the wishes of some very poorly children. This is such a great cause and it's good to know that when people are doing something nice for themselves like booking a holiday, they can take a second to consider others less fortunate and contribute towards a nice experience from them.

Here's what Jane Sharpe, CEO of Rays of Sunshine, had to say...

"Our partnership with sunshine.co.uk to date has been incredibly successful and we've been able to grant a number of amazing wishes for children thanks to the kindness of their customers. The money donated by customers has provided a welcome distraction to brave and deserving children across the UK."

So, a big thank you to you all for the sunshine you're helping to bring to these children's lives.
