Are You Amongst The UK's Most Frequent Holiday-Goers

Posted by Sue Anderson, 28th Apr 2015

Do you holiday more than the average person or less? I suppose you're wondering how you'd even know if that were the case. Well, we've conducted a new piece of research to look into how often people from different regions of the UK go away on holiday.

We spoke to 2,330 people aged 18 and over from an equal spread of British regions, to determine where in the UK people manage to get away on a holiday the most. We asked them questions about their holidays and how often they switched up the places that they chose to visit.

West Midlands Residents Holiday Most Frequently

First of all, we asked everyone taking part how many times they had been on holiday (abroad and in the UK) in the past three years. These people were also asked to specify how many of these trips had been abroad and how many had been in the UK. When we had received all of the answers we were able to work out the annual average of holidays taken, by the regions that people lived in.

According to our results, below is the list of regions and the average number of holidays taken by residents each year:

West Midlands - 5 holidays (2 abroad, 3 UK)

South West - 4 holidays (2 abroad, 2 UK)

London - 4 holidays (1 abroad, 3 UK)

Yorkshire & Humberside - 3 holidays (2 abroad, 1 UK)

Wales - 3 holidays (1 abroad, 2 UK)

South East - 3 holidays (3 abroad, 0 UK)

Scotland - 2 holidays (2 abroad, 0 UK)

East Midlands - 2 holidays (0 abroad, 2 UK)

Northern Ireland - 2 holidays (1 abroad, 1 UK)

East of England - 2 holidays (1 abroad, 1 UK)

North East - 2 holidays (2 abroad, 0 UK)

North West - 1 holiday (1 abroad, 0 UK)

Londoners Are Most Adventurous With Holiday Destination Choices

Next, we asked all of the respondents how adventurous they were with their holiday destination choices, such as if they visited a new location on most of their holidays or if they tended to stick to the same places. Londoners were revealed as the most adventurous, typically visiting a new location on every holiday they went on; whilst those in the North East tended to stick to the same destination for all of their holidays.

Everyone has different preferences when it comes to holidays; where they like to go, how much they like to spend and how regularly they want to go away. Of course, it's not always down to preference. Often, budget restrictions will play a part in determining where you go and how often you get away; however, there are always ways to travel affordably.

Those in the West Midlands have clearly got their holidays sussed, as they are managing to get away more than anyone else. Perhaps other people's busy lives or bank balances restrict them somewhat. It's not a bad thing to have a longer gap between breaks though, because then your trip ends up being even more exciting and you appreciate it more.
