Beaches

There is no beach here at Es Castell but there are several beaches and coves in the area. There are coves with rocky inlets at Calas Fons and Calas Corb which are located at either side of the town but if it is a sandy beach you are after then you will find one at Punta Prima which is just a 10 minute drive away. Punta Prima beach is one of the largest and most impressive beaches on the island and offers fine white sand. There are sunbeds and umbrellas to hire and a good selection of water sports available. There are plenty of cafes, bars and restaurants here too so plenty to do for the day.

Things to Do

There is plenty to see in the resort, such as the military museum in the square which was once the old British barracks, the church of San Francisco, the nearby Marlborough Fort and the many Georgian buildings that are dotted around the resort.

There is a fiesta each year at the end of July and there will be a whole host of entertainment, including live music, the Jaleo (rearing horses), a fun fair with stalls and rides for children and on the last evening there is a great musical fireworks display.

Out and About

The bustling harbour area is home to many bars and restaurants, with a good range of traditional Spanish cuisine, Italian, Chinese and of course many fish dishes, whatever your taste, you will find something to suit here. There is not much nightlife to speak of but there are several cafes and music bars so you will be able to enjoy a few drinks after dinner.

There are plenty of shops and stalls here and not forgetting the market twice a week.

Nearby Attractions

For those who like to keep active whilst on holiday, there is a golf course in Son Bou which is approx 20 minutes away. There is also tennis, cycling and horse riding available nearby too. There are many trails and paths to be found in the local countryside so get out and enjoy the fresh air and see what the area has to offer.

Take a trip to Mahon for some sightseeing or even a day shopping. There is so much to see and do here, you really have to come and see it for yourself. There are many boat trips that leave the harbour of Mahon. Glass bottom boat tours are popular and a great way to see what is going on both on land and underwater in the surrounding area.

There is a diving and water sports centre in S'Algar, so if you enjoy diving or perhaps want to take a few lessons then this is the place to come.

Another thing to do which kids will enjoy is a trip to the picturesque Calas Coves. It is best to visit either early morning or in the evening when the light brings out the scenery. The kids will enjoy exploring the old burial caves up in the walls and going on rambling cove walks, great fun and a little different. The area can be reached by foot from Cala'n Porter.
